Made any travel mistakes lately?

I didn't knowingly make a travel mistake lately... but the U.S. Government certainly made me feel like I had, shortly before boarding QF104 to HNL, 9 days ago. Mercifully, the 'rubber glove code' was not on my BP for the way home, yesterday!

I've been waiting for someone to poast "bought a Bonza ticket" in here since Tuesday ... :)
I've been looking for discussion of this debacle (as someone old enough to have been stranded by Compass Mark 1) but it's been crickets around here. Surprising for an air travel site. I've been here (AFF) forever but don't feel comfortable starting such discussions.

Writing was on the wall a couple of days prior to the collapse, the payment provider was not processing payments so people were booking tickets on Sat/Sun/Mon this week and it was remaining as un ticketed essentially.

You mean the whole thread here onwards from page 85:

Oh I feel your pain! We have had the dreaded SSSS a few times and it was not pretty. Mainly we seem to get this if flying one way tickets.

I had a return, and was flying with wife and 8YO son... who was quite distressed that daddy was being taken away by the authorities [for 5 mins] :D

Well, at least you can now tick off your annual prostate exam 👆

TMI - I had a choice of lots of other hand/finger emoticons but after much consternation I settled with the classic index finger for the personal touch.

Confessions season. I made a Rookie mistake - I trusted an Airline to do the right thing by their members and give advance notice of any planned points devaluation.

I‘m sure I’m not alone here and the pain will be felt among other AFF’ers (Not cool: United keeps raising partner award costs without notice), but United just slaughtered their partner award charts in the past few days. I am holding 32K points which I was planning to build up to 45K for a one-way Thai business award MEL-BKK. But with the recent deval, the best I can now get with a 30K redemption is a domestic Virgin flight Melbourne to Sydney. I try not to hold large balances in FFPs for this very reason and I’m lucky it’s only 32K miles. I guess it’s all part of the points game we play.

I write this as a travel mistake I did  not make today.
Wanting to do a day ferry trip from Stony Point to French & Phillip Islands, I looked up the website, it appeared ambiguous in relation to free senior travel.
So I called the phone number listed and the delightful Clare said best to book tickets.
As per the website - a place on the ferry cannot be guaranteed without a ticket.

She booked our tickets on the spot, and the email came through promptly.

As the 10.15 am ferry set sail, a dozen forlorn looking ticket- less hikers with their daypacks and poles had no choice but to wait 90 minutes for the next ferry.20240505_102447.jpg
