Made any travel mistakes lately?

Yes VA have been cheaper in December and January but VA cancelled the 5:00pm SYD-BNE last Sunday but luckily put my wife and daughter on 6:00pm flight which ended up delayed. They waited in SYD and I waited for them in BNE. Lost close to 90 minutes which was not easy with 4 month old infant.
Johnny Johnny Johnny - all to save $50? In with the wife and bubba - out with scrimping and saving a few shekels - it's a whole new world out there Johnny! ;)

Hey CE it was a fifty dollar note!
Lots of things to work out when you have a very young child.

Well TiredOldFlyer with it snowing in Sicily it is definitely freezing in France.
My brother has a place in the Bayonne region and he has started the winterizing process to avoid freezing damage.
Up at Big Bear in California one of our friends had all of his toilets crack in the first winter as he didn't know about winterizing.
There are some pretty good snow footwear that you may want to get for marching thru the snow. I guess you could get a snow scooter.
Got the Boots Cove but cannot have a scooter as there is no motorised transport.
I must give a bouquet to booking agent (Booking.com) who
have now become very proactive as alternative accomodation is not avaliable have offered to pay for transport intra village as required. I believe it is by horse and sleigh. Very romantic - could be a second honeymoon !

Gee TiredOldFlyer let the good times roll along. Very romantic.....you will make everyone green with envy.

How do you winterise a toilet?

I think you either drain it or you use some form of anti freeze. In cars you use anti freeze. Have never had to do it so someone else will know a lot more.

Maybe it's just antifreeze in the cistern?

I was told public toilets in Canada are heated for that reason, but never seen

On a recent Qantas flight from HBA to SYD via MEL I stupidly assumed that in the MEL Business lounge I'd be paged if I missed the (faint) boarding call. I was wrong and had to wait 2 hours for the next available flight. LOSER!! I did manage to negotiate the reimbursement of most of the extra fare and recrediting of half of my points though...(I'd used points for the original booking)

This may not turn out to be a mistake in the long run. But I am not happy.

Last week, I was planning (waitlisted) on a Cunard cruise in February 2017, a Holland America cruise in October 2017 and a Princess cruise in January 2018. So I decided to buy 100 Carnival shares. Seemed like a very good idea at the time.

Yesterday, the old problem recurred after a 6-month break, preceded by an 18-month break.

I have now been re-rebanned from cruising for 12 months.

Fortunately, the Inaugural AFF cruise on the Golden Princess is a year away almost to the day. I have to try even harder not to slip back into old habits again after I am released from this latest ban.

Thankfully it sounds like you didn't have bags.

Not just $50 my friend Cruiser. Multiply that for each flight. Possibly 40 flights this year. Maybe 50 flights this year. That money could go to good use for daughter's schooling.

But hey I don't know everything. Just trying my best under the circumstances.

I posted this in the 'op up' thread but deleted and moved here as OT for the other thread.

But consider this... I sat next to a solo parent with infant on a flight SYD-MEL a few months ago and they're basically tied to the seat. Eating and drinking is difficult because putting the tray table down or having to eat/juggle coffee cup with one hand is hard (other hand holding infant). Going to the toilet is difficult because you can't leave the infant. Two parents would seem to make sharing the responsibility possible, and free one parent to at least have short breaks to eat/drink/go to the WC.

How do you winterise a toilet?

I have to say it ... anyone that thinks AFF is an elitist "flyboy" forum just has to read this question (and the answers)!

Where the hang can an Australian ask how to winterise a toilet and get a sensible answer other than AFF! I'll never again be able to take a cough without the comfort of the knowledge that someone has read AFF and has safeguarded me against porcelain penetration by reading AFF! Well done my friends!

If i'm ever resident in a country with extreme cold, now i'll know what to do!

Naw... every child and every parent is different. If you suggest that no one should travel simply because they are a solo parent, then you'd be wrong. I've offered to assist this very situation once. I'm sure I'm not the only one that can be trusted? I totally agree that parents need to be vigilant with children's care, but the reality is most random people sitting nearby in a plane are not child molester's and simply want to help if they can, if that help is offered.
