Made any travel mistakes lately?

Pulled my bag out of the Jetstar crammed overhead bin after top of climb to the pull out some other bag which landed on some cranky old Biatch in the seat ahead of me. Sadly it was a Karen which didn’t help the situation. It was one of those flights in which I then became the enemy of everyone and got death stares galore for 3 hours. Cabin crew being way over the top with her afterwards, on which was really a small tap, didn’t help my situation either lol.
I can relate to that, having travelled MEL-PER-MEL on JQ recently.

The overheads were hugely overpacked, with each subsequent pax rearranging the space as they tried to stuff their bags into the crowded space.

So your experience seems almost inevitable IMHO. Sitting in row 1, I had to retrieve my carry-on from the overhead, and it was extremely difficult to prevent something falling out. I think I might have just managed it, but I did get a lot of dirty looks.

So while I do sympathize with your situation, I'm not sure if the woman who had a bag fall on her (through no fault of her own) should be demonized. If it had happened to me, I'd be somewhat p'ssed off, and possibly injured too.

... expected the train to get us to where we needed to be today. Get to the station, train is on the board, platform assigned.. train is at the platform ... Driver is there .... Sorry, not running today due to a national strike. Won't refund either, so chargeback here we come!

3 hours to get on a bus as many people shuffling to get on. Taxi was €200 so obviously inflated as usually a lot less.

Ah...

Transferred €1000 to my travel money card, (it is how I like to do things), accidentally put an extra 0 on the end.
Didn’t notice until I was checking the balance the next day.
Guess it will get spent eventually. :)

edited, corrected spullin.
At least you can console yourself with the fact that the AUD/EUR exchange rate is about as good as it’s been during the last 5 years…

Trusted this connection in DFW when I helped a friend book to Toronto last week.

Immigration was apparently terrible, and AC8976 apparently left early (according to FlightRadar24) leaving my friend stuck waiting for an alternate flight on AA, eventually in YYZ at 11pm, and bags lost to the ether...

A 4:00pm scheduled international arrival to a connecting 5:30pm departure in a large USA airport is asking for trouble.

My first flight to DFW on QF 7, it took 70 minutes to get though immigration alone.

Moreover, they often start boarding the flights 40 minutes and shut the doors 15 minutes before scheduled departure.

Off QF7, my SCT is 240 minutes and only if on the one booking.

Lessons learned! I'd taken from other posts that DFW wasn't as bad as LAX, and thought the connection would have slipped past immigration hassles. Why WF website offered the connection like it did was asking for trouble!

Turned up at VCE 3 hours before my flight on BA’s recommendation to find that BA wasn’t opening baggage drop offs until 2 hours before flight.

Took the lounge staff at their word when they told me to leave 1 hour before my flight to get through passport control (the lounge is pre-passport control). Turns out passport control comprised 5 staff, a maze of redundant bollards, no other punters, and took less than a minute. I then spent an hour staring at the gate surrounded by a rowdy group of high schoolers and nursing half a bottle of warm sparkling water.

Also couldn’t find my flight to LHR on the board… turns out I’d booked one to LGW instead. Furthermore, by the time the flight arrived after midnight (well after its scheduled time), the trains connecting to my accommodation had ceased. Oops.

Well I flew into LGW last night (with BA), got in just before 2am, trains run all through the night. There's always a way to get to where you need to go.

Even in London night timetables are more restrictive than day schedules. It can mean the difference between a direct train that takes an hour, or three hours spent on an indirect train and two N buses plus a walk. Ultimately I forked out for a cab from Kings X, but it’s not a viable option for everyone. Depends where you’re staying really.

We have stayed at Stoke on Trent this Monday and Tuesday. But on Monday and Tuesday every pottery museum is closed.
Not only that but I had picked out 3 National Trust properties to see. One advertised that it was closed Tuesday. Turned up at the second to find a sign on the gate closed today. The third was open.

Moral of the story is don’t stay here Monday and Tuesday.

Dang.

It’s taken me many years to remember the Monday/Tuesday museum rule. It seems pretty standard in Europe for museums to close on a Tuesday - but sometimes also Mondays. Monday and Tuesday are transit, nature and/or shopping days.

Booked a Jetstar flight Launceston to Melb last week for 9.20, rocked up early in the morning to discover was a pm flight!. Paid $50 to bring forward to midday. Q lounge not open for ages as no Qantas flight, stayed in departures as Lounge not airside.

Booked a flight from HND-LHR using QF points. Got the ticket and realised it was for this year, not next year. 😮

Immediately cancelled it, and amazingly got a ticket for September 2023.

Cost of 6000 points for the cancellation.

Why?

Shouldn't have cost you anything.
That's a nice surprise, I hadn't seen that. The T&Cs said it would cost 6000 points.
But the link you've posted read as follows"

Simply book
  • an Australian domestic Classic Flight Reward before 30 September 2022 and you can change or cancel your booking fee-free until 30 September 2022
  • a Trans-Tasman or International Classic Flight Reward before 30 September 2022 and you can change or cancel fee-free until 31 December 2022

My bolding. Thanks @Must...Fly! Looks like it's just cost me some time. :)

Booking SQ A350 medium haul economy.

I didn't realise it was that bad. Looks like SQ using this aircraft from quite a few Australia airports.

Found Award availability one-way March 2023 for 3 people but that could be OK as I could swap seats with wife daughter if soace issues or even better book aisle/middle seat for wife/daughter and aisle seat in row behind for me which guarantees no serial recliner into my face.

Genius!

I'd never thought of that although our kids are/were somewhat older & do recline - at least with your thinking you have some control vs pot luck!
