It makes sense now why I struggled to find accommodation in Valletta but I have a beautiful apartment in Sliema
I would be interested in your thoughts on the cost of living in Malta too if you can give any insight?

It's reasonable, considering it's an island. Not super cheap, but I didn't find it that expensive either. If you're not short term letting, then the increase in accommoation during summer doesn't matter so much either.

Cheers! Sounds reasonable then.

Bought a KLM business class ticket from CGK to KUL (to get the gin doll house of course) and did not realise that some business class airfares do not include lounge access. So going to be a long 3 hours waiting for the flight. At least the bottled water was only $1.20 post immigration.

Supermarket prices are fairly similar across the board I found though, unless you're buying from a tiny little corner shop but then that's no different to the UK, Spain, Italy etc.
I was thinking about restaurants

I recently returned from Bali (first time since around 1997). Prior to leaving and rather than applying for a VOA, I pre-applied and pre-paid for my Visa and Tourist Levy. When I paid, I thought it was a bit too much and unbeknownst to me I'd applied and paid through a (thankfully legitimate) 3rd party. For what should have been about $130 AUD for the wife and I cost me closer to $600 AUD 🤣

If you want to feel better my friend read you needed to complete the customs declaration before arrival - the QR code declaring if you’re bringing alcohol etc.

They thought they might not be allowed to check-in, panicked, and found a site and paid $300! Not for the visa, just the QR code! Yes, aussie dollars.

So at least you got something! And there is someone worse off! 🤣
