The last flight of QF9 via DXB on an A380 is on the 23rd March 2018.
The first flight of QF10 via PER on a B787 is on the 25th March 2018.

I have decided to fly them both. This means that I will miss the inaugural QF9 on the 24th, but seats were easier to find coming home on the 787 than going over.

I will have about 24hrs in London, so I will be hoping to catch up with some local AFFers for dinner. :D

And why the madness? All flights are in Y.

So, who is going to join me?

So when are you in London? We will be there 23, 24, 25, 26 (depart 27) of May. Would be great to have a soy latte. :) We have some bookings for dinner a couple of nights, but always up for a drink or lunch or a coffee (with soy).

You're crazy!*

*and I'm only saying that because I feel a little better after rather impulsively booking on the inaugural 789 flight from MEL to LAX (with 24hrs-ish in Seattle, to pay homage to the first 747 which I forgot to notice last time I visited the Museum of Flight a few years ago) before heading back to MEL.
Booked in PE and hoping for a points upgrade (I figure I have no hope on QF95 but maybe QF96 on the return? Unlikely as I'll be a SG by then but maybe...)

There's something cool about being able to log onto my QF app and see this picture!

I look forward to your photos! :D

Jessica Tam, may I please ask how much your return fare was? Or, if you used points, how many and how much were the taxes and charges?

I assume that because PER will have different taxes and charges to DXB, that latter amount is different between flights today, and flights post late March 2018.

Do you perceive that your chance of an upgrade on both is reasonable to high?

The idea sounds good, would be good to join you.

I will keep it in mind; The idea of flying from London to Australia sounds great.

Well there were no Red-e-deals!

You're mad. ;) That trip is too long in economy for me.

Hope you get great enjoyment out of your trip.

Sorry but I don't think I would want to do LHR - PER direct in a premium cabin, let alone in Y :p

I'll wait a few years until the airline and aircraft are properly run in. And the pilots will have had some practice

A few years?!? QF will already have been flying the 787s to/from the US and that will have been after many shorter familiarisation sectors.

Yes a few years. Wait for the hype to die down. How Long it take for pilots to accrue x hours on this type with enough TO/L cycles?. Wait for the fuel/range predictions to adjust to reality. Will See what happens to diversions- I would think that a divert during the international sectors would result in a cancellation ..... Etc

Currently lots of speculation, hype.

The madness is inspiring:p. The price currently at $2860.54 AUD is uninspiring. (Can fly LHR-AKL return x2 in Y for ~ same in NZD even departing in next 2 wks!)

There is a particular drop in London I'm fond of - inspiring.
Knowingly flying with an AFFer -:lol:
What to tell the partner - uninspiring:(.

But I have ~ 11 months to contemplate:).

All this Y travel and only a day in London. You are very brave.

I will pray for you!

It does tick off a challenge I set for myself some time back:

I used to do shift work that provided four days off on occasion. I had always wanted to come to work on my first day back and when asked what I got up to on the 'weekend' reply: "Not much, just went to London for dinner".

Well in that case, you should totally do it!

I will accompany you in spirit.

It also ticks off that other long held challenge of yours - you know where you wanted to re-write the definition of a universally used word contained in every dictionary ever produced - MADNESS!
