Seems pleasing your current customer base is a difficult task!

Not difficult at all actually, but doing nothing for your current customer base is obviously far easier for them.

swanning_it, I think you're the exception to the rule though. It isn't just the lounge access. It's the best Y seating, the baggage benefits etc.

Perhaps not such a big exception. It was the differences that swung me from strict and singular BFOD to almost exclusively DJ flying 3 or 4 years ago. But right now for me, singular BFOD and aggregate BFOD are both aligning on about 50% of my flights and that alignment is away from VA. That will mean if 50% of my flights are non-VA, I'll certainly lose gold and with it most of the benefits. That'll snowball the aggregate BFOD further away from VA so in a year or so, it'll mean no status (perhaps silver) on any airline. That's part of what annoys me.

I got the offer of 200SC as platinum..However, I can take ANY flight I was not asked to take a J return or 2 J return,,,it simply said any Virgin Australia flight. Can this be correct??Hope so as I have a booked a status run flight SYD/MEL/SYD for this Saturday!

I was status matched to Platinum,

I have not had any chance to fly DJ this whole year, its kinda bad really, all I've done is used the anytime access in their lounges (Which I really love them for),

I will be requalifying for Platinum on Qantas however, just can't get over QF F and J on the A380 to the USA. (Been to USA 3 times this year for personal enjoyment, once in F, and twice in J). (self funded)

I really hope that I will soft land, because that means I'll be gold for another year, and then silver, so I shouldn't have to pay for luggage for another couple of years with DJ.

A few friends of mine have been flying Virgin, and having spoken to their staff, I was very rudely talked to a couple of times. Once the lady at Canberra was so exceptionally rude, (I'm always calm and polite, firm but polite), that I mentioned that being a Platinum with both Qantas and Virgin, I have never been talked to so rudely in my life.
The second she heard I was a Platinum, she got really scared, and was very apologetic and apologised twice. I didn't care for her apology though, If thats how she wanted to speak to a lowly red velocity member, then I wouldn't fly DJ again based on principle. She then was able to help my friend out, by not charging him to change to a later flight (connection was delayed on their part, was charging him over $400 to change his SYD-PER flight)

That experience as well as not being able to check baggage through if PNRs are separate means that I moved my 6-7 CBR-SYD-PER rtn flights per year in Business to QF and QF only.

My platinum status with DJ will expire 1 September. I did not receive any offer which was quite disappointed but I do not blame DJ. As much as I would like to try DJ's product, a combination of cost/ company policy meant I did not have get the chance to do so.

Soft landing will be great but we will see.

I believe the QF soft landing requires a minimum number of segments to be flown. Does Virgin have the same requirement?

I was status-matched to VA Plat and I've flown only VA domestically since then. I have over 1,100 SCs on VA and my Platinum re-qualification has shown as "Achieved" since April (my anniversary is at the end of August). However based on the "eligible sectors" formula I won't re-qualify unless I start spending money because I need to fly five more revenue sectors in the next six weeks. Sectors where I've credited VA from SQ, for example, don't count.

On the face of it, it may have been better for me to be disloyal to VA and flown QF instead. Then I would likely have received one of the offers to book either a single J flight or some other combination (in any event less than five sectors) in order to re-qualify. My loyalty to VA is being "rewarded" to my detriment.

I was status matched... I re-qualified for VA Plat three months ago and I've still got nearly two months until my renewal .

Hang on, when you re-qualified for Plat wasn't your renewal date automatically reset to that date? I was status matched in Sept 11 but once I'd made DJ Plat (the hard way, no offer I might add!) my renewal date was reset to July 12

Not neccessarily. My offer, and a number of others, is for bonus SC not status extension. Minimum sectors are still required.

Your date is only supposed to be reset when you first achieve the level not on requalification.

My Account Details show:

Review Date: 31 Aug 2012
Status Credits earned since 31 Aug 2011: 940
Additional Status Credits required to maintain Platinum by 31 Aug 2012: Achieved
Additional sectors required to maintain Platinum by 31 Aug 2012: 5

Got the +200 SCs offer to maintain Plat also (only needed ~100SCs by Sep). Just completed a trip and I see there is already a pleasant surprise in my account
today.

Bit gutted to not have had any offer. I requalified Gold unassisted - but am very close to getting to Plat and a little helping hand would be very much appreciated!

Its a few pages back but those talking about DL and VX, may want to double check there e-mail. The T&Cs in my offer state:

^This offer is available to Velocity members who have received this email, and is strictly non-transferrable. This offer only applies to flights marketed and operated by Virgin Australia. Codeshare services operated by partner airlines are excluded from this offer. Only flights booked and travelled between 15 July 2012 and 17 August 2012 qualify for this offer and bonus Status Credits will only be awarded on the first eligible flight flown in this period. An eligible flight is a flight that is booked in a fare class that normally accrues Status Credits. Flight must be taken in order for Status Credits to be awarded. Status Credits will be awarded within 4 weeks of flight being taken. Normal Velocity rules apply to retrospective credit claims.

thats for the status credit promo. for the purchase a business class ticket the terms clearly allow all partner airlines

And why would I think that I was special? Got the 2 x business class flights offer to maintain Platinum. Not convinced it is worth maintaining Platinum for another year If $1,600 is the cheapest these flights will cost.

Nothing for me... BIS status gets shafted again lol
I totally agree. I would be mightily pissed if Qantas ever offered something like it....

I am pretty sure the offer was 1 business class return flight or 2 flexible flights to maintain Platinum!

Have done 200sc all double s.

Yes but John, at least you got the offer. I'm really annoyed that many of us aren't even getting the opportunity to whinge that "the offer" isn't to our liking!

It was mentioned earlier in this thread, (oz_mark IIRC) that a good way for VA to keep some of us gold members happy would be an incentive for platinum. What about 2 rtn J flts to achieve plat. If I got something like that, it would benefit VA as I'd do it, it'd benefit me as I'd get the extra plat benefits for effectively $4/SC (which is much better than $7-$8/SC I currently pay) and there'd be more incentive for me to than keep plat by going for that 800SC requal by buying more flexis or J fares. But no, VA seem to see absolutely NO benefit in keeping many of their existing loyal flyers happy, preferring instead to serenade those who've shown no interest in VAs romantic advances! Hang, even the SMed who've shown loyalty since have been largely shat on from a great height.

It's been days now and I'm still bloody angry about this cough.
