Maintain Velocity Platinum - how long for you?

Checked the stats for Mrs F today.... Qualified for Plat on 27th December 2011. Requal'd by Jan 23rd 2012. Flicked SC's to me via sharing, her flying qualified me in March for Plat, then requal'd in early May. She is now working on getting her mum Plat, which should occur by July, then have a couple of friends we will work on getting to Plat. All up, she will probably hit 6000 SCs for the year based on her current flying patterns. She is doing BNE-PER-BNE almost every other week and her work is paying for Flex fares (always upgraded into J with points). She also has had two J class circle Asia on Singapore Air this year, and has one to go. She will also have a J return to USA on VA, and a J return to Kuwait on Etihad coming up as well. Add to this our personal flights to NZ & Bali in J and we are really starting to knock up the SCs.

Sorry in advance is this is a stupid question but I am quite confused about the 8 sectors required to maintain my Platinum...
My anniversary date is 29AUG12 for re-assesment...
I have achieved the 800 SCs required in November last year with the double status credits offer on Delta doing a trans atlantic from London.
At this stage I haven't flown an eliginle DJ/VA sectors and it still says need 8 sectors however the fine print says this only applies from August 2012?
So have I requalfifed for Plat or do I need to make up the DJ sectors - I definitely have 5 DJ flights coming up so do I need to fly 3 more?
Apologies once again if this sounds stupid - just not familiar with DJ that much.

My assumption is that "from August" means if you have a qualification date of 1 August or later (which all Platinums do) then you must have flown eight eligible sectors.

Hi IainF, I have just been told you only get one comp card per year. So although I have over 4000 SCs I can only do the one Comp Platinum:(

We are just going to do it via the "Family Share" program.
Much quicker than via the comp card.

Would be interested if anyone has confirmed this with DJ - I'm in a similar position (requalified on SCs but only flown 3 DJ sectors)

What it means is that as of 25 August 2012 I as a Platinum re qualified need to fly at least 8 sectors on DJ/VA and obtain 800SC to ensure I maintain Platinum beyond 25 Aug 2013. If I dont fly the 8 sectors I presume I dont qualify for Platinum and it will taken on the number of sectors flown on DJ/VA eg may have 1200 SC and 6 sectors would mean gold.

Thanks for the replies - that's great...I tried to call VA and got 2 conflicting reports...but mickeyc747 I think that makes sense - so if prior to 25AUG12 I have qualified as Plat through the 800SC but not through sectors I will maintain Plat for up until 25AUG13?

GoldenWinger, I would say "No"

All explained here:

Whilst the Upgrading your membership is based on a rolling twelve month period, once you make status (or are comped it) then the Review Date becomes fixed and is the important part.

Key paragraph is this:
If on your Review Date you have not earned the required number of Status Credits or travelled the Eligible Sectors^ in your previous 12 month benefit period to maintain your level of membership, you will move down to the next level of membership.

So for all comped Plats, who will have a review date of post 25 Aug, they will need to have earnt the 800 and have travelled the 8 sectors.

Note that if you are then demoted to Gold, then a few domestic flights could get you back to Plat, as you only need the 1000 SCs and 8 sectors in the preceding 12-month rolling period for the Upgrade.

On my reading an example would be like this:
30 Aug 2011 - Comped to Plat
April 2012 - Earn 1000 SCs flying partners - no eligible sectors
30 Aug 2012 - Drop to Gold (only move down one category)
Sep-Mar 2013 - Fly 8 eligible sectors - making 1100 SCs, 8 eligible sectors in rolling twelve month period
Mar 2013 - Upgraded back to Plat with new Review Date of Mar 2014

I would disagree with your example as Eligible Sectors do not start till 25 Aug 2012 (30 Aug 2012 - Drop to Gold (only move down one category))

What it means to me as stated before I went Platinum on the first day in Aug last year and I have requalified. According to DJ I am Platinum until 25 Aug 2013 now during Aug 2012 to Aug 2013 I need 800SC and 8 sectors to maintain Platinum.

...I'm not going to risk it...I will fly those extra 3 flights somewhere - I have been very impressed with the Plat Velocity - especially using the Hilton Diamond level - I have made great use of that. From late this year I will move all of my company's business across to DJ - they offer a real choice now. I made QF Plat One and am letting that lapse - it was just a lot of empty promises and offered nothing really tangible over and above standard QF Plat.

Thanks again for all your answers and input - greatly appreciate it.

Pity I could not give you some of mine I have done 80 DJ sectors since Aug 11

Thats why I have Mrs Mickeyc as Platinum and 2 of my Juniors as gold.
And you guys can take another 8 into the lounges with you if all travelling together!

Is there a Virgin Rep that still posts on the Velocity Discussion Board? have not seen any comments from them for ages, maybe they want to clarify exactly how it will work.
