Can I just confirm that you can use the gates in the F lounge to board your flight if you are on a QF flight.

I thought saw a trip report on it but can't find it

I thought this was just in DXB?

BD

At DXB:

At the A gates in T3, yes. I'm pretty sure just about all of them have boarding from the EK lounges. I've done it a number of times over the past year or so.

Yes, thanks you are right, AA4 departs from T4 and arrives into T8 at JFK. Will I get into any lounge, or maybe I could go to another terminal at LAX to have a nicer experience.

I think it was Serfty who suggested that, but I cant find that reference.

Under oneworld lounge access rules, connecting from long-haul international to domestic will get you lounge access based on class of service for the arriving flight. If you arrive F you have access to any F or J lounge. (Arriving J you have access to J only).

Details here: Lounge access - oneworld

If you are holding a premium cabin boarding pass for an AA transcontinental (non-stop) service between LAX-JFK (and vv) you will also have access to the appropriate lounge based on class of service.

Thanks MT. As I have around 6 hours btw flights I'll try to find the nicest lounge. Maybe the First host will have an idea.

Do they have chauffeurs available in CBR? Of course, the CBR - SYD is only J, F starts in SYD. If not, perhaps I could get one from Rydges SYD airport where I am overnight, to the terminal.
Yes - if you have an eligible F flight from Sydney, then you get CD in Canberra. They are good and you can ask them to make the pick up later. When you book CD via the web page it has to be at least 2.5 hours before the flight, which is a bit crazy for Canberra.

Just noticed you seem to be flying to the USA? In which no CD anymore for anyone....

In the event of an emergency evacuation the PJ's are not likely any better or worse than the clothing worn onboard by the majority of passengers IMO. The likelihood of such an evacuation isn't something I'd consider at all when deciding when to get changed into my PJ's.
I'm more likely to decide based on what I want to do post take-off. If it's a night flight/ short flight or I want to go to sleep quickly then I will change prior to departure. Otherwise I will get changed after lunch/dinner.

I used to think like you do now until I read JB's opinion on this very matter.

Like it or not, he has more knowledge / experience with evacuation (slide) than you & me combined.

Actually it depends. jb's post (the one I can find from 26 jan 2014 in the 'ask the pilot' thread) recommends footwear, and suggests regular clothes may offer more protection than PJs, however... bare skin is worse. If a passenger was wearing shorts or a short-sleeved top, the inference was that PJs might actually be better (to guard against friction burns).

jb's answer:

Women have to remove high heels. They can deflate the slides. Normal mens' shoes are fine. Actually, I've never understood why any woman would feel the need to wear high heels on an aircraft.

...

...it started from a comment I made quite a while ago to the effect that putting the issued pyjamas on, and removing ones' shoes, before take off wasn't the best idea. If you end up with something going wrong on take off, and need to use the slides (or get through debris/fire), the pjs don't offer much protection. The lack of shoes could be even more limiting.Going down an escape slide, with bare skin on the surface, will, at the very least, give you a friction burn....and they're long slides. Arriving at the bottom, into who knows what, in bare or stockinged feet, is equally unattractive. Whilst the pjs don't offer much protection, have a look around at what some passengers wear.

At the end of the day wear what is comfortable. I don't care what will happen in the 1 in a 1,000,000 event with or without shoes on, clothed or unclothed. If one is soooooo concerned that X footwear or Y clothing is not good in such a rare event, go ahead and wear ski boots, wear flameproof motor racing gear, wear a crash helmet and so on.

QF F is most definitely heaps better than QF Y or even J, but to call it 'glorious' is probably overstating it. Yes you will be much more comfortable than other sections of the plane and the service will (should) be great, but it is still public transport and you still have to stay in a fairly confined space for hours on end.

I agree. I've flown QF9 (MEL-xDXB-LHR) twice in F this year and while I was excited the first time I felt it was a little bit meh last month. Absolutely nothing wrong with the service/product but it's really just a comfortable bed/seat for 23 hours or so - I do appreciate that it's 6 to 8 times the space for Y.

I'll probably fly QF9 F maybe twice more this year but the thought of the loooong journey takes a lot of the shine off it.

Oh, that reminds me... been meaning to ask someone who's recently done QF9. How do they structure the meals now? Do they do the 8 course menu on QF9 anymore? With a 10pm departure, surely that's a supper followed by breakfast into DXB...? Is the longer meal on the DXB-LHR sector?

Yup, supper followed by breakfast. No caviar or 8 course menu.

After flying QF 9 just last week, I can tell you that you get supper and full breakfast on the MEL-DXB sector and lunch only on the DXB-LHR sector. The Tasting Menu is not offered MEL-LHR.

I cannot comment on QF 10 as I took QF 2 back to Australia.

That'll be why they reduced the price when they shifted the timings.

... er .. what's that you say ..... ??
