I note that AMEX points can be TF to the Enrich program at a ratio of 4:3.

I tried to find out the following info from the MH website with limited success.

1) Flight availabilty in J and F....appears only generic info like "there is availability for that partic. route in that class for that month". Can you actually find out the exact flight availability online or do you have to call MH up?
2) Points required?... it seems you need to be a member to find out:(. In particular, I would like to find out how many points are required for a J and F Syd-Kul return?
3) Any idea of the amount of surcharges that need to be paid?
4) It seem you need to physically go to the MH office to ticket the award. Is that correct? Annoying but I guess I can live with that if the points for premium awards are not too bad.

Any Enrich members that can help with these questions?

Thanks

1) If you are a member you can search for a given day, and picking a few random days in May next year, there seems to be availibilty

2) Business is 75000 points return, and First Class is 90000 points return.

3) The calculator won't tell me as I don';t have sufficient points. But MH fuel surcharges are pretty unfriendly

4) Haven't redeemed on their new system (last year they moved to some dynamic system), so can't answer whether that is still true.

Thanks! So 100,000 AMEX MR gets Syd-Kul return in J, 120,000 AMEX MR for F. Something to think about:idea:. Can anyone elaborate more as to what sort of fuel surcharges are likely...in the Sq range??

It will be similar to SIA, in the $350-$400 range. 120K MR points for F looks to be a good deal but don't expect similar benefits to SIA F, even on non-A380 planes. Suggest you browse their websites to compare.

Quick points comparison : SYD-KUL return.

J: MH @ 100K vs. SQ @ 76.5K (90K less 15% online discount).
F: MH @ 120K vs. SQ @ 119K (140K less 15% online discount).

Ignoring the fact that flying SQ means via SIN, it is better value flying J with SQ however equally the same when flying F.

Can you redeem online for F on SQ? You may not get 15% discount redeeming over the phone.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Alan, the problem is award saver availability on Sq. The points you quote above are for Sq saver awards which are becoming increasingly more difficult to get on Sq. Ex Sydney, it is difficult to get 1x J saver return Syd-Sin-Kul, and just about impossible to get 2 seats. I think it is impossible to get F saver awards now between Syd and Sin as you can't get F savers on the A380, and there is no F class on the 777-200s which serve on the 2 other flights between Syd and Sin. There is no F class between Sin and Kul.

For these reasons, I am looking at Enrich and MH to fly 2x pax premium class between Kul and Syd.

Does anyone know whether you cqn do 1 way awards with Enrich? and is the points requirement simply 1/2 that of a return?
Thanks

have upgraded to J with MH at least once a year. the way i work it, is that i semi-book the seats (not the cheapest ones either), and then get Staff on the telephone (20 mins), and ask them whether there are upgradeable seats available on that particular flight, and they say yay or nay! quickly transfer points over to MH and book the seats asap. ring them back and ask for upgrade.
earlier this year there were only 2 available for upgrade to J and we were a party of 3, but phone staff said they usually kept a family together, so that was good. at that time it was 25,000 MH Points, which was 50,000 altitude.
well worth while.
didn't have to go to MH office to get ticket re-issued. all done by email still.

How do you book/purchase only upgradeable seats on MH online? I don't recall that you can specifically select a particular class of Y seats? Probably I haven't understood what you meant by semi-book the seat?

if you look at the different types of airfares that are available in economy, there are 4 levels of them. can't remember what each are called at this minute, but the first 2 "cheaper" seats aren't upgradeable. do a dummy booking and it will show the different classes in economy. the last 2 on the right hand side are upgradeable. i go nearly all the way with the booking except pay for it, and then ring MH and see what's available on that flight. sometimes doing a dummy booking in Business will at least give you an idea whether there are some or not. if not business seats available to purchase online well then you don't have a hope of getting an upgrade. sometimes i play with a couple of flights and they tell me which is available to upgrade, so then i book that one.

Thanks for the useful tip. I checked it out again by doing a booking and found out that 3 or the 4 fare types are upgradeable. The site did say however that the upgrade is for a fee (ie. not free). But for some strange reason, I don't see these 4 options in Enrich when attempting to redeem points, only Y, J and F as options. Also, points transfer from Amex would take days I would assume, unless you were referring to cash purchase?

i think the fee is your points. i've also just transferred over Altitude points from Westpac to Enrich, and they were there in less than 24 hours. am now waiting to book my own flights and then upgrade to Business too, but Westpac have stopped my cards "caught in a comprimised fraud, but haven't been used". waiting impatiently for new cards to arrive.
25,000 Enrich points for Business upgrade = 50,000 Westpac Altitude points.
but as i said, not the cheapest seats.
MAS quote me 75,000 per person for Syd-KL return in business, so that would be 150,000 Westpac Altitude points
my travel is business and tax deductable so it's worth it for me to buy the dearer seats and claim, and then go for the upgrade, especially when we are flying as 3 adults (this will be the teenage daughters 9th overseas flight, 7 of them business, and all except for 2 were done on points)

OK, all organised now.
paid for 3 X return Syd - KL - Syd on Amex (double points), transferred the points from Altitude successfully, and business class upgrade confirmed today. new tickets in hand. now just to wait until April. bring on the first 3 races of next year's Formula 1 season. Melb. KL and then a side leg to Shanghai then back again.

Do I dare point out Bahrain...;)

Incidentally, with the presence of AirAsiaX and the new calendar, doing Malaysia&Shanghai rounds are quite an attractive proposition.
