Hotel Promotions Marriott - buy points with a bonus or discount

Seems to me a reasonably cheap way to buy Krisflyer points - am I wrong here?

By my maths, at a 55% bonus you'd be paying USD19.35 per thousand KrisFlyer miles (if buying 60,000 Marriott points and converting those to 25,000 KrisFlyer miles). That works out to be around AUD27 per thousand or 2.7 cents per mile.

Cheaper than buying top-up points from KrisFlyer, but not necessarily "cheap".

Wish I could find my plat end date in the app. Could someone guide me please?

I thought Bonvoy membership was calendar year based and your status is maintained for the year in which it is earned and an additional 14 months after that year (therefore ending at the end of February).

For example, I maintained my platinum status in 2021, so it will expire at the end of February 2023 if I don't satisfy required nights to maintain platinum in 2022.

I got back on to confirming status enquiry and see this in the app under ‘Help’. It does not specially mention status earned in 2022.

I had a number of nights staying in Marriotts this year but apparently not enough to maintain platinum status as I have just received this awkward wording. :
“Our system shows that your Platinum Elite status will be expired on 01/31/2023”.

I've recently started looking at Bonvoy as a way to increase my stash of points/miles for StarAlliance redemptions, especially on Air Canada which has amazing flexibility and partners. Credit card earn outside QF, VA and SQ is not available to me, so buying miles economically is a strategy.

Notwithstanding the great flexibility of Bonvoy points themselves, for my purpose I just did a calculation, which may be of interest.

Buy 100K Bonvoy, with current 40% bonus costs US$1,250 = A$1,812. Transfer 120K Bonvoy to Aeroplan, becomes 120Kx1/3x1.25 = 50K Aeroplan points IF my maths is correct :) .

Buy Aeroplan, with a 100% bonus (not current, but common), so buy 25K Aeroplan, with 100% bonus = 50K Aeroplan for C$875 = A$941

Half the cost of Bonvoy, with current 40% Bonvoy and regular 100% Aeroplan bonuses, again, if my maths is correct. This difference really surprised me.

Again, I know Bonvoy has great flexibility with many airline partners, and some you can't buy miles as with Aeroplan, but Aeroplan does have an amazing list of partners itself, especially amongst the smaller carriers not part of Bonvoy.

Anyway, I won't be buying Bonvoy - but I'd be happy to hear if I'm wrong in my thinking above.

But can you transfer Aeroplan points to Marriott? I can't see this as possible. So I'll stick to buying Marriott points to use with Marriott.

I'm only after airline redemptions, partic on Star Alliance hence my exercise. Certainly not nay-saying other uses for Bonvoy points.

Marriott Bonvoy currently has a 40% bonus until 8/11/23 when buying at least 2,000 points.

Does anyone else buy Bonvoy points? I like to have a few in my account so that I can transfer them to (almost) any other frequent flyer program, when needed.

Over the past few years I've been buying the maximum possible whenever there is a bonus on.

I've got excellent value out of using them for hotels in the US.

I was at the maximum 100,000 points for this year, so am happy to see that this has been increased to 150,000 for thus promotion.

40% for me too. Likely to buy some as I have a specific redemption in mind for later this year.
