The Tasman in Hobart is now being advertised as Coming in December.

There is possibility of this being delayed further as one of the onsite trades has decided to take industrial action.

Luxury Collection Hotels are part of Marriott International and prices start at around $400 a night for a standard room. A presidential Aurora Suite will set you back $5000 a night.

The Tasman, in Hobart’s parliament Square, is in a high tourist traffic area - just steps from the famous Salamanca Markets, St David’s Park and the vibrant waterfront of Sullivan’s Cove.

It offers 152 rooms which include original artworks from local artists, fireplaces and island baths.

I am somewhat perplexed on how they will control for noise at this location with the roadway being directly underneath it?

Yes it’s a horrid location. Hope it is quadruple glazed!

The Stamford Plaza by the SYD domestic airport does an excellent job of keeping the aircraft noise out. In fact, you can't really hear them from a room facing the airport and that's an older building. So I'm sure if they want to solve the problem, it won't be an issue.

The Tasman in Hobart opening Dec 17. Well booked over the Christmas - New Year period (they say).

From The Mercury:

Guests will be able to experience three distinct eras of design within the 152-room hotel, including the original 1840s heritage building, an Art Deco building dating back to the 1940s and a contemporary pavilion building.

The Tasman will also feature three dining concepts, including signature restaurant Peppina created by renowned Tasmanian chef Massimo Mele, a coughtail bar and spirits library known as Mary Mary, and the Deco Lounge for light lunches and afternoon teas.

TIP for anyone staying at the Tasman. Unless you like spluging on breakfast, don't bother having Marriott breakfast which I'm guessing will go for at least $50. Go to Daci & Daci Bakers cafe immediately over the road. Lovely place, much like a French patisserie but a full cafe.

Not good for W Sydney with reports Probuild has gone into insolvency due to issues with a Brisbane project in particular.

The Ribbon: A $1bn accommodation and entertainment complex designed by Hassell on the eastern edge of Darling Harbour in Sydney. It includes the W Sydney hotel across 25 floors and a new IMAX Theatre featuring the world’s biggest screen. The project was close to completion.

Major landmark at risk after collapse

One of Sydney’s newest landmarks has been left sitting as a building site after a major Australian construction company collapsed, with warnings the city “cannot afford” for the project to remain incomplete.
