MAS Business points given as Flexible Economy

Hi, I recently flew PEN-KUL on MAS. The fare was sold and ticketed as a Business Class fare and we definitely were in Business class. Qantas has only credited status credits as flexible economy. The e-ticket says class Z “Business Basic”. Does anyone know please is this worth fighting….e.g., how do I find out what the Business vs Flexecon SC’s would be for such a short flight? And if it’s worth the struggle, how do I address it. I note the ‘missing points’ claim form on the Qantas web site doesn’t allow for this sort of thing, only if the points are totally missing. TIA for any advice.

What date was the flight? MH Intra-Asia Z class switched to crediting as Flexible Economy instead of Business on 1 Aug 22.

If you flew in July or earlier, fight. If you flew in the past month, unfortunately you're out of luck.

It is not worth fighting. The earn rates were 'enhanced' from August 1st.

 
By MAS - I'm assuming you mean Malaysia Airlines (MH) ?

How many SC did you get? I think QF credits J fares on MH as Flex Y.

Hi, thank you for the help. Yes Malaysian airlines is commonly known as MAS in Malaysia. Sorry if I wasn’t using the correct Qantas terminology. I only received 10 Status Credits, from the table above it should have been 20, am I reading that correctly?

It depends on the booking class. What was it?
 
Just to follow on from the previous comments, this footnote from the tables will tell you something..

^ Flights booked in C, D, I , J and Z class will earn at Flexible Economy Frequent Flyer Earn Category, however will receive Malaysia Airlines Business Class service,

The date of the flight comes into it. The way they credit changed on 1 August.

Before 1 August would have been 20
August 1 or later would be 10

Ah, that explains what’s happened perfectly. Thank you so much. There is so much complexity and if you don’t know the right terminology to search the Qantas website it‘s so much quicker to ask an expert here.
I am still at a loss as to how I could have actually booked a fare that would have given Business Status Credits, and pretty peeved I didn’t know this. But you have told me why and saved me time trying to mess with Qantas, so thanks a lot.

Unfortunately Qantas makes this incredibly difficult for the average punter to work out. The only way to be sure you will receive Business SC when flying Business is by flying with Qantas.

For many partners the SC earn rate is intentionally crippled, especially on routes where they could be deemed to compete with the Qantas group.
 
MH/MAS and QFF earning QFF points and QFF SC has always been a "bad" rate, for quite a long time now, Aust - Malaysia - UK.
Looks like QF has made it worst by putting inter Asia MH flights onto the same "basket".
I second it, not worth fighting, as QFF had made the decision as to SC earn on partners.
At least you got "J"/Z seating, rather than Y on 3K (Jetstar Asia).
 
@AustraliaPoochie: yes, agree completely. I feel cheated because I took 3K so called business up to Penang but purposely booked MH back thinking I’d get business SC’s. If I’d known this I would have just stayed with 3K, which for a one hour flight doesn’t matter at all to me in terms of comfort.

3K don't have a "so called" business. Unless you mean JQ on the 787?
 
For regulars flying business on MH, BA is a much better proposition, as far as status goes (if you can get the necessary BA sectors).

15 short MH sectors like this gets status equivalent to QF gold, whilst 37.5 gets equivalent to QF platinum. On QF the numbers are 70 and 140 respectively!
