Masks on QF International Flights

Saw this article in SMH about QF lifting mask mandate on certain international flights where the destination doesn't require masks to be worn. Will be interesting to see how this plays out and how many people keep wearing them, and how many people stop wearing them even on flights when they are meant to be required.

Yeah well… maybe the double rate is why they still want masks :)
Masks that are not in the hierarchy of control to make any difference at all. Especially when taken off to sneeze.

I always take off a mask to sneeze. Who wants to be wearing a mask that you've sneezed into for hours? Insanity!

Surely you sneeze into the mask, then replace with a clean mask and dispose of the soiled one. Or hopefully at the very least you are sneezing into a tissue (not your uncovered hand).

Masks are there to stop droplet spread, taking it off to sneeze which is the fastest way to spread droplets metres at a time is counter productive.

Each to their own. Italy doesn’t care if ‘x’ number of people arrive with covid having spread during the flight. WA does, and doesn’t want it to happen. WA’s thinking may go beyond the health of those on board, and to the protection of the general population.

But the median age of death from this virus is 83, which is about median life expectancy in Oz anyway, which varies a little by sex. In the vast majority of cases, if you 'get it', you'll recover.

Masks are dehumanising, environmentally destructive and as some have said, often ineffective.

I am not carrying around a million masks all the time, especially inside somewhere like a plane. What if you have hayfever?

I'm ok with masks not being required on flights anymore, but where you are required to wear one it would wise to have spares (not millions, but taking a 10 pack of N95s doesn't exactly add any heft to ones carry-on). Surgical masks are pretty useless and cant be worn for extended periods such as a whole long haul flight anyway as they get soggy quickly.

They are useless, but I find them less uncomfortable than N95 masks. In reality all these masks are pretty useless, it may be 1% useful vs 10% useful.

What I don't get is why wear masks if conducting a F+B service? In Business (especially), I could theoretically have my mask off from take off to landing if I continue to indulge. Seems to make a mockery of the whole charade.

have you seen how slow drink service on QFi can be? like an hour out sometimes to get a drink?! :D

Yes it does make it more bearable to have the mask off for extended periods. Hopefully not too long before masks become optional on pretty much all flights.

Someone reported in another thread that a QF FA was asking pax to put the mask back up between sips of a drink. Which is how it was done in the US.

I have not been specifically following this as it didn't apply.

What are the actual mask rules for someone flying MEL-LAX on QF93?

It would be interesting to see whether Qantas will follow suit and not require masks on flights to Singapore.
Also mentioned here in Singapore Airlines section.

For all I know QF have been following mask rules of destination countries (e.g. no mask from Australia to UK, US)
