Matt Newton arrested.

I have more sympathy for the rower that was recently dumped from the squad, shipped back home & publicly outed as a Bipolar sufferer 2 months out from the games - than I do for this cough.

The other Turkey in the photo is not much better - making false claims to the police & then continues the charade on National TV:confused:

If these two represent the best & brightest of our sporting elite - we're very deep in the brown stuff.

Simon Cowley is another that I have sympathy for!

I am sure there is some international agreement on visas for Olympics, world championships etc so I am not surprised in this case the pair got visas.
I am amazed in cases such as Ben cousins and Matt Newton, though possibly they got them on humanitarian grounds as they were seeking treatment.
And I continue to be annoyed at people acting as judge jury and executioner. This fellow went through the judicial proceedure and got his sentence. He then was disqualified from the Beijing olympics hence a second punishment. He then went through a Civil litigation and got a third punishment.Sure he declared bankruptcy-but he is a student who obviously hasn't a full time paying job.I think he is perfectly within his rights to do so.I would question the legal advice that he should be sued-the prospect of a bankruptcy should have been factored in to this advice.
And quite frankly I hope he does win gold.

Sad to think you would hope a convicted criminal wins gold. Do you not remember what he did to Simon Cowley? Google his name and look at the first picture that comes up - maybe you will think twice about what you just wrote. It's ok for a basher to be allowed to travel willy nilly, but it's not ok for your average "Joe Blow" who has had a run in with the law (some even without conviction) for minor things to have to go through the lengthy process only to be denied a visa or told to wait 5 years before they can apply????? Where was Nick's 5 year wait???

Sorry but have you read the evidence given in the trial. This was not simply a case of a king hit out of the blue.I have read the evidence.
Again if the average "Joe blow"was selected to represent Australia,New Zealand or Upper Volta at a World championship then he/she would get a USA visa even if they had been convicted of an assault.
Criticise the system if you like but unless you have personal knowledge of the circumstances why target the individual.
PS I do know Nick Darcy's father very well though I have never met his son.hence my personal interest in the case.

NO ONE deserves to be punched like that and get their jaw broken no matter what the "circumstances" were. Obviously you are biased seeing as though you know someone in the family.

Isn't shooting part of the Games?

What would happen if we chanced upon a pic of a shooter in speedo's???

But it wasn't a punch that's where you need to read the evidence.Had it been a deliberate punch he would not have received a suspended sentence.I am not condoning what he did but getting your evidence from the tabloids also leads to bias-just unrecognised.

What does it matter whether it was a punch or an elbow or what ever it was? The damage was still done.

IMO there is a greater bias by knowing someone personally (in this case his father) than just forming an opinion by what is out in the media.

Again from the evidence it was not entirely unprovoked-exactly what was said is not clear granted. The elbow was not aimed at the face it was aimed to the rear of Nick Darcy. So the damage was not intentional. And I have publicly stated my bias.
There are numerous examples out there of prominent people-footballers,politicians-who have been guilty of very similiar or even worse behaviour that have received much less punishment.
And as I have said he has been punished on more than one occasion.I feel the reaction to the recent photographs is just over the top.
Similiarly I feel that the media and Opposition concentration on Craig Thomson is over the top.But I do feel the Government also has a lot of explaining to do.

Nick D'Arcy: In 2009 received a jail sentence of 14 months and 12 days, suspended on condition of good behavior. In 2011, declared himself bankrupt.

HOW is he allowed to travel to the USA for swimming trials for the Olympics?????

"Celebrities" getting a easy ride yet again?

Female rower gets thrown out of the Olympics because she can't get along with three other girls......ND, gets a rails run:confused: If he wins Gold - I won't be cheering!

He's no chance to win gold.

And I'm happy that my prediction proved correct.

Another "celebrity" allowed to travel to the USA - Heath Scotland today received a two year good behaviour bond with no conviction. His lawyer pleaded with the magistrate to avoid a conviction so he could "travel to the USA for football training and become a firefighter once his football career is over".

Makes me so angry!!!!
