MEL-AKL in F, worth it?

Hi

So Mr EMF has 120k EK miles to spend. I stupidly enough arranged an Emirates CC for his business spend with the aim of getting us a J flight back to FRA.
That was before I realised how expensive the fuel charge and fees were...

We have now moved all our expenses to QF.

Nobody has picked up on this... You moved from EK (who increased their taxes to align with qantas) , to Qantas - who have some of the highest fees in the world?

Why not go with one of the other 10 programs which offer much better redemption value from credit card spend? You would then have the additional benefit of less competition for award seats so more likely to get the flights you want.

Just booked Afternoon Tea at Burj Al Arab in January.

Booked AKL – MEL in F for my partner and I next year as a treat, and they were on sale. As a relative newbie to both Emirates and F (it’ll be my first ever A380 flight!), is there anything in particular to take advantage of when there to really enjoy the experience? Can you use the shower even though it’s only a four hour flight? Thanks!

You might be able to use the shower. Ask politely as soon as you board. I can highly recommend. :p
Enjoy the bar at the rear of J and then walk past all the J seats on your way back to F heaven. :p

MEL-CDG in J with EK would cost me $619 pp in taxes, whereas flying CX is $157. Availability is great too.

I'm happy to stand corrected though.

On a EK flight from Mel - Auk, and looking to experience the bar, is it a race to get to the bar?

Not in my experience. The crew even took a photo of me behind the bar.
And just this lot were there when I was:

Not crowded at all on my AKL - SYD flight.
My only complaint was not doing AKL - MEL as it takes an extra 30 minutes.

I was originally going to fly F but was talked out of it. Didn't miss F as the menu is the same on that leg and I spent most of my time with +1 and another AFFer at the bar anyway, working our way through the coughtail list. YMMV.

They offer the shower and seemed quite disappointed when I said no thanks. There are 2 shower attendants on the a/c.

Bar can vary from moderately crowded to almost empty. I actually bumped into someone I knew at the bar on one trip.

When did they offer straitman? I flew in April and they made it seem it was highly unlikely I would be able to have one - and a few others have had to ask. They certainly weren't offering.

I had one last weekend AKL-SYD, was no trouble at all. I asked before departure. I think I was the only one out of the seven passengers who had one.

I feel sorry for the shower attendants.
They've created a level of staff below flight attendants.
Hardly surprising though, it is a reflection of the stratification of ex-pat labour in the UAE.

Thats good. I felt a bit weird in the overall interaction. MrP trying the suites out next week in a mini (and luxurious) status run. Has to be in NZ for work anyway so doing it in style.

I'm a bit late to the conversation but I had the shower back in April this year also (2015 SYD - AKL)

When are you due for your next shower and i thought they had running water in Tasmania :-)

I'm a bit slow and don't really get what you're saying.

Has anyone experienced the showers on both an EK A380 and an EY A380?
I had a couple of showers on an EY flight but I have no EK experience to compare it to.
Anyone experienced both and able to offer a comparison?
