Great night. Well done Cruiser. At least I didn't get the raw prawn (penegal got both of em :) )

My late booking meant I scraped in for a cattle class seat but I managed to pick up an amenities kit bag as I walked past the first class seats on leaving. I grabbed penegal's when he was distracted rummaging around for an eighteenth bottle

10 random observations regarding last night:

  • How good was it to see [-]blacky[/-] blackcat20 and Tom having an actual conversation through their mouths and not through their phones?

Actually I think at one stage blacky was showing off her "hot lips" and was speechless whilst Tom was making her eyes water ;)

  • Champagne with port chasers – a first for me – any of you guys tried this before?

No, but what I have tried now is a port with 15 champagne primers and 2 champagne chasers

That's cos someone snuck me a ridiculously hot chilli. Never has a chilli left me in tears before...

Now that I've surfaced from the fog (I chose option 1), a belated thanks to CruiserElite and all attendees for bringing such great tastes and personalities to the evening - the company was amazing and the venue afforded us the opportunity to have some private space to guzzle gregariously.

Now that I've somewhat recovered I'd like to thank everyone who attended and especially Cruiser for a great night.

Here's looking forward to MELCAN II as part of the AFFDD ;)

The upside of not having to be at work the next morning....

Sounds like a great night.

Cue organising a similar event in Brisbane? Or Gold Coast?

I thought you described Champange as being utterely without merit? ( or words to that effect) or did I dream that ?
(lol)

Sorry JohnK, but I think Cruiser Elite will be too busy organising the next MEL one. ;)

A fabulous night, thanks Cruiser Elite for your efforts pulling it all together.

Who would have thought that I would have been able to try in excess of 15 champagnes in one sitting without getting cut off!

Indeed! :D

You should organise it yourself JK - nothing to it - in fact any clown can do it as evidenced the other night - you got plenty stuff for the amenity kits?
I am a terrible organiser. Failed with Brisbane drinks.

I have been known to have a glass or two of champagne to see how the other half lives. ;)

I think with these type of events it is more about the company and the conversations than juat about the alcohol.

Any tasting notes taken/noted/posted?

I'm interested in how CE found the P. Louis Martin (NV? I think), since I had a P.Louis Martin 2007 Grand Cru Brut the night before MELCAN 1. Since I can't express in the terms of daver6 or JohnM I found the 2007 to be ok but thought it was somewhat short on length.

Similar thoughts with the NV - I also felt it stopped short on the back palate and lacked complexity - the Vieille on the other hand would seriously give you a chubby!
