Thoughts and comments? I've just booked because I try to keep to VA...But I wanted to get some stories :)

More comfortable than doing it in Y class, but I hope you didn't pay full price, because that is not worth the money!!!

If you get a good CS it will be nice, but at the moment the service in J is way too hit and miss, so much so that I wont pay full price for J.

Did SYD-DPS in J two weeks ago, and did Y back. The J flight (daytime) was worth it IMO, and the CS was attentive and kept my glass of Sav Blanc full. Got the half-price points upgrade so was fine with the spend. On the other hand, rows 3 & 4 were actually empty. No, completely empty. Those flights are always only 70% full.

Took the Y option row 4 for the return, was a midnight departure and I slept four hours so no drama for me. My companion was miffed though - can you believe no food service at all? Seriously they only provided water. Yep DJ can be hit-and-miss like that, maybe their pref for Gen Y crew catches you out on the odd occassion.

I know personally the flights from MEL/SYD are load restricted due fuel from MEL it was 140~ pax...

I did DJ SYD-DPS in Y and back in J.

My advice: prepare yourself for disappointment!

The trip over was OK – although I was shocked by the paucity of the food options – but the trip back in J was most ordinary. The food was almost inedible. The wine service was pretty basic too.

The only saving grace for the J component was the FA. Just terrific. Obliging, caring and responsive. But for that I suspect it would have been a complete write-off.

I did HKT-PER on VA and maintain my position that 737s are not designed for flights that long. Anything over 5 hours and Im looking for a full-service wide-body.

I agree, even BNE-PER is pushing it.

Does anyone know whether we can use the SQ lounge in DPS airport? For DJ flights to and from Australia?

You won't be able to use the SQ lounge in MEL as you need to be flying SQ but you do get access to the Air NZ lounge. In DPS SQ use the same lounge as DJ which is actually really nice.

Really? I thought you had to be flying to New Zealand to use the Air NZ lounge in MEL?

Think yourself lucky. Here in PER there is no International DJ or NZ lounge and the SQ lounge is only available to those flying SQ... so J guests of DJ International have to slum it outgoing.

The MEL/SYD/BNE proposition is quite different it seems:

Virgin Australia and Virgin Samoa operated International flights - ex Brisbane, Sydney & Melbourne
Air New Zealand Koru Lounge
You and a guest on presentation of membership card and boarding pass for same day travel with Virgin Australia.

Platinum members are entitled to 3 guests when travelling on Trans-Tasman services.

SQ don't have their own lounge at DPS. Both DJ and SQ use the Premier lounge. As a Velocity platinum travelling economy to BNE I got access no trouble a few months ago.

I know you need those darn SCs.... but honestly their value is seemingly ever increasingly questionable from the accounts of people not getting status recognition etc etc etc...

Honestly The NEW Garuda 332 is really fabulous.... I am seriously considering heading to AMS next year following a recent SYD DPS return in J.

I am finding loyalty and alliances ever more frustrating. And from a value proposition it becomes ever more perplexing.

What Garuda has done over the past few years is nothing short of remarkable. I remember flying them when I thought the plane was too old to fly... think wire from one of the door handles going around the adjacent three rows of seats! Yikes!

I am finding that difficult to believe. Are you sure she wasn't snoozing when the cart came through? Crew are unlikely to wake someone on an overnight flight during service, and I know they keep the lights off when they do come through for that reason. Did she ask the FA's if there will be a service? Not trying to grill you, but I've never been on a flight where no service at all was provided. But plenty of flights were someone complained they were 'missed' or 'not served' because they were snoozing at the time.
