MEL - Pre-Pay Parking

I have just come across a lurking problem with the pre-pay system at MEL: it still relies on the magnetic strip on your card, not the chip as pretty well everyone else uses. So if the strip on your card is not in good condition, the card will not register in the readers at the car park entrances. I got hit with this recently; I wound up having to take a ticket at the entry, and sort it out at the customer service window later when I left.

I actually made the booking I list 2 posts back - ret to MEL at midday on Nov 4 - actually caught later flt and did not exit car park until 8pm - no extra charge has appeared on CC.

I have also noticed this, and have just booked a 6-day stay in Short Term for round $70: sweet!

Yep, actually pretty good value. Select long term and then it appears with the offer.

Has anyone got any feedback on the Valet parking option at MEL? Significantly cheaper then the Virgin/Qantas offerings.

Can't help you on that one burco but FWIW currently parked in MEL LT - in 21/04 1pm / out 29/04 10am $66 - cheap!

And parked 2 spaces from closest exit to walk across to terminal - found trolley 20mtrs from parking space to lump 3 big bags.

Well decided not to be so lazy and save myself $50 - so the valet parking test will have to wait.

The competition must be hitting MEL parking - rates continue to drop. Just priced 05:00 May 5 til 10:00 May 13:



$56 if your times are definite - $71 if you require a bit of flexibility - ATPIT I am not sure of return date so took he flexible rate which allows me to extend day by day at cost $5/day if reqd - good value IMHO.

Not applicable - I am always on SQ not QF / JQ! But seriously I have been up to 5hrs post booked ret time and never received extra charge - go figure.

Actually >2yrs since I have taken a domestic flt - I gotta get out more!

Back OT - when I returned to MEL last week I walked back to LTCP and as many will know lots of works going on in and around LTCP - so what did some jerk do? He / she parked right across the already restricted / narrowed entry point - leaving it impossible to enter with trolley full of luggage.

He / she probably thought he / she was being smart parking so close to exit - wouldn't have been smiling when he / she returned when he / she saw what some clearly unhappy patrons had piled up on top of his / her car - branches / traffic barriers and even a trolley laying on its side right on top. I did take a pic on phone but downloaded all pics and now cannot find it - I'm tippin' that car owner will seek a different car park next visit.

Just booked an at terminal 'holiday special' late July. 15 days for $113 with JETSTAR, even cheaper than clicking through the long term upgrade. Not sure what holiday they are referring to.
