Well... what a night!

It was absolutely fantastic to see so many familiar faces and re-connect (I think I even remembered some of the names). It was also lovely to meet the newcomer who introduced me to a lovely Tassie Pinot Noir [and a Yarra Chardonnay I think?].

Big thanks to @serfty for organising this mildly self-indulgent dinner for me and everyone.

It turns out that none of us can count on "Mr Legacy" @Matt_01 whose tardiness rivals my own. RSVPing after the event started and still coming is quite an impressive feat, however bringing some "second-hand" dishwasher detergent and trying to feed it to astute AFF members as wine was a low point.

At the opposite end of the scale, our dear friend @whughes3 brought a lovely "Chinese" wine from that great band Ben Folds Five. The Grange was singing after about an hour in the decanter. Honourable mention to @Sprucegoose whose wines were also lovely.

Thank you all who attended, and for those lurking, I encourage you to come along to the next one.

I share your feelings, @penegal, and appreciate @serfty for his gastronomic organisational aplomb. It was a wonderful evening, and it was great to meet members I hadn't met before, @BCons and @Oscarq. I owe an apology to these good folks for enduring 'The Legacy' due to the thoughtless actions of a former Army 'Wine Mess' Lieutenant (allegedly) and to the Uber driver who refused to stop by a fine wine merchant. This stain will indeed be hard to erase from popular folklore.

Therefore, I propose renaming the dinner 'The Legacy' for all future engagements and will leave that to the learned Committee to discuss.

Our trip to the big smoke was today, so missed Mad Cow by a day - so wanted to be there @penegal et al as Olive Tree has been a long time favourite of ours.
Mr Flyfrequently had to settle for a Pullman on the Park steak tonight, not bad though

@penegal and @Sprucegoose I was waiting for your comments . @Sprucegoose the Uber driver driver did not refuse to to stop at a fine wine wine merchant, the convenience store opposite the Sebel did not have historical wine collection. Happy for the OTD to be renamed 'The Legacy' and I will make every effort to find/buy and bring a bottle but will-not commit to it. For anyone playing a long at home, @penegal @Sprucegoose and myself have caught up on many occasions. For the record there was another AFFer who thought 'The Legacy' was good value for money, i.e. 'free. Final comment 'The Legacy' was consumed.

Reckon you deserve all the criticism noted above for replying late, arriving even later and bringing a bottle of muck. But then you insisted on taking us with you down memory lane to your prime years serving in uniform where, apparently, your finest achievement was to be elected Mess Wine Wrangler. It was too much for most of us listening - we had to gargle with whatever was at hand..

Thanks everyone. I had a great night with lots of interesting conversation. I was very impressed with the quality of the food and the care and knowledge of the staff who served us.

We decided to use a multi story car park nearby, but didn't realise it closed at 10pm. Luckily the owners had remote access to the venue and once we contacted them they opened and closed the gates for us.
