Melbourne to Sydney by overnight XPT train

Shame there couldn’t be some investment to upgrade tracks and alignments to allow average speeds of 140kph, so a 7 hr run. Then sleepers certainly would be less of an issue and with two sets could in theory run 3x daily service. 7am/2pm, 3pm/10pm, 11pm/6am.

I think I will have been shoved in the furnace at the crematorium well before there is ever a HSR between Mel-Syd.

And if past performance is an indicator of the future, before there is an Airport train CBD to MEL.

Considering the basket case that has been Airport Rail (or extra runways, tunnels, pretty much anything being made in Vic), my crystal ball tells me that HSR would just be a disaster in the making. Guaranteed to be over budget, late and not fit for purpose when built.

I see the Allan government has built new platforms for these new trains but didn’t build them long enough. Contractors are making a killing from all these screwups.

Well at least the new metro trains fit in the tunnels they built. Looking at you NSW 🤣
