Malaysia lets nearly everybody in to their country. So the guys on the stolen passports could have come from nearly anywhere in the world on their passport or used the stolen passport to transit via Malaysia.

Will be interesting to see if they started the journey in Malaysia or elsewhere.
No terrorist group may have taken responsibility for the moment, as most terrorists these days are lone wolfs or isolated cells.
If this was an act of terrorism then there are a number of terrorist groups or their sympathisers in that area (Asia) that might be involved.

What against the Muslim brotherhood? Don't think so.

There are many more places in the world I would have marked as a hot spot that Malaysia.

Possibly, but even Malaysia is currently on a purge against the Shia. So all is not well internally.

ultimately the public decide these things by patronizing these businesses. And while we are all pious when it comes to publicannouncements on the issue we all take a peek to satisfy our curiosity.
Can't disagree with that analysis, my point would be that both the media and the consuming public don't really have much of a desire that we actually get facts, in fact speculation seems to be the natural human condition (look at our parliamentarians, they prefer to speculate sometime even when the facts are clear).

Yes agree, a centuries old conflict the Sunni and the shiite. Moving this unrest internationally is surprising if that's in fact found to be the case. It's a whole new ball game then.

The FBI is on the case lets see what they drag up.

I read about secondary checks at the gate in KL for flights going to Australia but the question is, are there any secondary checks for flights going to China?
If the pax with stolen passports connected in KL with BPs in their hands, there was nothing much the authorities there could do to catch them.

No boomy we flew to Cochin via KUL and only had the extra checks at the gate on our return trip from kl to Perth

While I don't claim any expertise, the published image of the 'oil slick' looks more like coral spawn to me.
It wouldn't be the first time they've been confused and misidentified by people who should know better.

I know this has already been cleared up by a few here, but when I first heard this report that the slick could be something else I looked through photos online and they do appear so similar (coral spawns) to me.

Considering there have been no reports of any other matter except for oil it's unlikely this is evidence of the downed 777.

This really scared the cough out of me. Talk about a near miss. I was at future music festival yesterday so didn't see the news until late last night. I had family who were flying on that exact flight. So I freaked out and tried contacting them, no answer which you could imagine what was going through my head.

Turns out they change their travel plans and got on the next flight the day later, which by the time I had found out the news. They were on the flight, so I couldn't contact them. Thankfully they arrived safely. They said there was no news of the crash at the airport at all. They only found out about it after they arrived.

So this really has reminded me how easily things like this can affect anyone.

I never mentioned any ethnicity or religion, rather I was pointing out as a transit point Malaysia is a fairly easy place to get to.

Good point. You even have the possibility that is an action against the Chinese regarding their treatment of Weigur people.

Just saw on CNN they mentioned the two stolen passport holders bought their tickets together.

there is some data floating around the web about that, including they were travelling onwards to Europe and the flights were booked on march 6

One possible theory is terrorist attack on china/Chinese. Whoever planned this might have thought they were going to be on a china southern aircraft but turns out it was codeshare on MH metal, so end up crashing another country's aircraft by mistake. And now nobody dares to own up to it.

Possible, no?

I find it very interesting that the plane has "disappeared" I understand how the ELT is affected and why it would be hard to find but no debris or sign of a crash is amazing! How long did it take to locate the air france wreckage? And does anyone know the longest a plane has ever disappeared for? has this exceeded it?

Also if it has landed how could it possibly have gone undetected on any radar?

Its not like this plane disappeared in the middle of the pacific or atlantic oceans and that we have to wait for days for aircraft or boat searches?

Every minute/hour that goes past without locating the plane at all raises more questions than answers.
