SkyNews on Foxtel advertising a two night special on Feb 19/20, including interview with a pilot Who knows where it is.

Surely this has been done to death with no new info

And it’ll be six years come March, can you believe it?

And there is a good chance they never will. Incredible that you can lose an aircraft in this day and age. Does anyone know if any modifications have been made to prevent this from happening again ?

It’s being worked on, but you’ll really need a generation change of aircraft. Modifications don’t happen in a hurry, and as we’re seeing with Boeing, even simple changes can suffer from unintended consequences.

As for the various pilots who say they know where it is and what happened... They don’t. Their guess might be better than others, but they remain guesses.

The French have a couple of large pieces of the wings. The damage to them indicates that the airframe was ditched as opposed to crashed. But this is old news.

My understanding was that it showed the opposite.

Unfortunately I can't find my original source so cannot corroborate.

This theory was hypothesised in a book by former Canadian air crash investigator Larry Vance. However the ATSB's chief technical officer Peter Foley told the parliamentary committee “ have quite a bit of data to tell us that the aircraft, if it was being controlled at the end, it wasn't very successfully being controlled."

Stuff You Should Know did a two part podcast on the MH370 Mystery for those who are interested.
Given the information available however, it's pretty obvious the Captain intentionally ditched/crashed it.

The flight simulator data really clinched it for me.
It was a either practice or an intentional red herring.

How long does a black box retain its integrity?

Hypothetically, if the aircraft was located tomorrow, will they get the answers needed, in order to discover what really happened, given that the box has been in saltwater at umpteen feet for this long? Additionally, will the investigators be able to determine the cause, with saltwater corrosion and rust settling in?

I truly hope that it is located sooner rather than later, if only to bring closure to the families left behind. :(

I don't know what the limit is, but in the case of AF447 it took 2 years to retrieve the memory unit.

As long as it's not full of incomplete flight paths over the Indian Ocean I think you'll be OK, Lol.

Perhaps a much more important modification, would be to include a toilet within the lockable part of the coughpit.

Good idea and honestly I've wondered myself why this hasn't already been done in later generations of aircraft.
Makes sense from a security standpoint but also a hygiene one, particularly in light of what's happening with the coronavirus.

Pilots and the flight deck should be protected above all else.
