MH 777 missing - MH370 media statement

It would have run out of fuel by now, I imagine if it had landed somewhere everyone would know. :(

CBC (Canada) evening news on almost continuous coverage, with crosses to Beijing and KL ... all treating it as a loss. :(

Hoping they are as wrong as 'usual' in early stages of a story.

Its been 6 hours, I think its a reasonable indication that sadly there has been a tragic outcome. Its possibly the fourth hull loss (and second to involve fatalities most likely).

This is tragic news to wake up to as a bystander, I feel for the families who are probably just getting the news.
It's so close to home.. any of us could have been on that flight. It's easy to forget that these things happen... until they do. More than two hundred pax..

The last known track of flight MH370 over southern Asia.

The last known track of flight MH370 over southern Asia.

that is not the last known track, that is ADs-B data provided by volunteers. flightradar24 also relies on ads-b data and they tracked it out to sea. however neither are conclusive, only ATC know where it was last reported

Re: MH 370 missing

My heart skipped a beat - Jnr#2 flew out of KUL on MH yesterday. Thankfully, arrived safely.

Very distressing for the families.

Re: MH 370 missing

Our thoughts are with all the family and friends of those missing presumed lost at this stage. We live in hope that survivors are found and rescued as quickly as possible.

Re: MH 370 missing

Presumably also the MH control room has tracking.
At least noting from the QF32 where QF Engineering were getting live messages from the plane as well

Re: MH 370 missing

Plane Talking says China media is reporting the aircraft lost contact over Vietnam airspace.
Here's hoping for a good outcome but have to admit it's not looking good.
Regards
N'OZ

No real comparison, being ten years older she would have been a lot less talkative on the data front, even more so since its a Boeing.

Last track according to FlightRadar24

If Subang ATC lost contact 2 hours into the flight, wouldn't that give an indication of where the aircraft was at that time? If so it would place it near southern Laos or mid Vietnam.

Re: MH 370 missing

Greg Feife, former ATSB and ACI contributor just interviewed on CNN:

-"likely track over water not land"
-"very difficult to locate if a water landing occurred...likely through debris on the sea"
-talk of decompression events at cruise altitude and how catastrophic they can be

very sad if a break up has occurred and no likely survivors

Not good, hopes and prayers are with anyone who has friends or family onboard..

What are the main challenges to locating the aircraft? Wouldn't aircraft normally have transponders which are / can be activated in an emergency (notwithstanding something like the AF incident). I don't know how these work exactly so please someone comment.

If the aircraft landed somewhere on land - even if it were a crash - likely someone by now would have raised the incident as such, so it seems like it is lost at sea.

Not good. God be with all those on board.
