Given the plethora of speculative reports, I would have thought it more prudent to inspect the objects in question before saying anything.

I sincerely hope they've found it.

It's possible that the RAAF aircraft may have reached the site by the time they hold the press conference in ~30 minutes and may have some more concrete findings to report at that time.

Unlike the Andaman Sea and the Straits of Malacca, the ocean west of Perth is very much pristine and lacking in litter/debris of any sort generally, so the find sounds very unusual.

Have to agree with this......unless they already know beyond any doubt.

drron, you are a tad cynical today :o:rolleyes:

It seems to be about 1,400 miles west/southwest of Perth (the site being searched). How close is that cargo ship?? Will they be the first on the scene?

Using a rough measure using the scale on that map it is 2400km south west of perth which =1491 miles.

And adds to suspicion for me as to how much the Chinese knew. The "cargo"ship is still in the vicinity it was 3-4 days ago to the east of Heard island.Seems to be where the ping arc goes through.
HANG SHENG 1 Current position (IMO N/A MMSI 413501228) - Vessel Finder

PS I should add that I think it more likely to be a fisheries mother ship.but?

Cargo ship does appear to be a bit South of the search zone.
Although if you press on "Track" it has been doing some interesting patterns recently.

2500km SW of Perth, huh?

Poseidon aircraft should be on site now. Probably get another update tonight then.

They seem pretty confident given the resources that they are retasking are considerable, including a marker Herc .

Various aircraft will be arriving there from 'now' to 1800hrs (AEST).

HMAS Success has been sent to the area.

Objects are 'indistinct' but sightings are 'credible'

Satellite imagery came from the AGIO* this morning. Imagery was handed on to Defence for their analysis.

If turns out to be true, is Australia now responsible for the recovery?
And would the black boxes be useless, as they only record 2 hrs and then rewrite. So would not have the recording when the plane actually turned first time?
Does anyone know?

From the sounds of it AMSA would task vessels/aircraft in the area accordingly.

The report is heavily qualified with 'may not be related to MH370' and 'waiting for more information from the search aircraft'
