MH 777 missing - MH370 media statement

Anyone who saw tonight's BBC news in Hong Kong with video of Malaysian authorities dragging Chinese relatives away from journalists would have to question ever flying on MH again. What are they scared of?

Sorry I don't see how behaviour by Malaysian Police = flying on MH.

Fly very low over the jungle, just above stall speed, open the rear most door 0.5m, toss the dead Paxs and all their carry ons out and close the door. They would then have more than enough fuel to reach Pakistan. Watched a 777 door opening video and it looked doable.
Not sure how you would do this in flight considering a 777 doors open outward and forward. I suspect the air flow might want to keep the door closed or close to it.

Just watched the Helios 572 Air Crash Investigation story that I taped - possibly apt timing.

Hypoxia may have had something to do with flight 370. At least they would have been unconscious at the end and not known anything.

Much rather think that than the other option...

Wow I thought had read some of the more bizarre and implausible theories of what happened to MH370, but some of the previous posts really are out there!

If you look at most plane crashes, the rational explanations (after examination) tend to be in the great majority.

Hopefully the plane is found relatively soon so we can all have some peace.

can someone explain to me the reason why oxygen masks would not deploy automatically once the cabin pressure reached a certain level (ie even via a 'slow leak'). I thought they were automatically deployed?

This paragraph early on should be considered by the likes of CNN and Fox

"The problem is, all of them start out with “it’s possible that” (rather than “the facts indicate”), from which a thinking person could only conclude what “might” have happened–with no better chance of knowing what actually did. Worse, once the boundaries are stretched to include “possible” and “might” as operative terms, you no longer have an investigation at all; rather, you have a piece of creative writing."

They probably did, would not have changed to end result though.

I was confused about this too, but apparently there is only enough oxygen to last for about 15 mins. The system is just designed to give the crew enough time to get the aircraft low enough so people can breathe normally.

Its a certification requirement that at least fifteen minutes of oxygen is available to the passengers. The coughpit has a different system fed by a 3200l bottle, at 300l per fifteen minutes that gives the crew much longer supply. One of the side effects of going higher up is to increase oxygen needs.

One thing that makes me discount the WMD theory is that if all they want is an aircraft as a weapon, then stealing one with 239 people on board is a high risk, high profile strategy. If you have the capability and resources to steal the plane, store it, and re-equip it, then you would have the resources to buy or lease one. There are plenty of 767's out there that could be obtained cheaply and without drawing attention to yourself. If you are just going to stuff it full of explosives and fly it at something, then you don't need fuel efficiency and advanced avionics. You could quietly procure one or more 767's and catch everyone by surprise, whereas now the whole world is on alert. These people are not stupid, so am I missing something here?

Hard to not agree. I don't think organised terrorism has been seriously considered as close to the most likely suspects other than possibly in the first 24 hours after the plane went missing.
The Herald ran an interesting article online a few days ago about the taboo subject and how even previous open and shut cases ended up officially classified inconclusive such as the Egypt Air and Silk Air incidents.
The US also rarely countenance intentional actions of the pilot to harm the plane with figures quoting only 0.3% of their total crashes investigated (total of 8) were officially blamed on intentional actions of the pilot with only one of the eight crashes involving a passenger.

While I 100% agree with this, I am wondering why we are surprised, due to many factors but no doubt our own Rupert Murdoch's has had considerable influence, investigative journalism is close to dead. That's not news to me!

AMSA are confident something has been found:
