All I can tell you (from being on the receiving end of a previous boss who smashed out emails during flight) is that a Blackberry connects at least five times between SYD and PER with sufficient service to get outgoing emails away (noting that BB uses much less bandwidth than competing platforms).
And that is less populated than the northern arc.

Good info.

Was he allowed to use his phone while flying? Or just didn't care about the rules? :-)

I saw some tool check his voice messages on a PER-SYD flight as we passed over the populated areas of SA. So there's some sort of coverage up there.

AMSA update on the southern search:

The search operation for MH370 in the Southern Indian Ocean has continued today in the Australian
Search and Rescue Region.

Today’s search was focused on an area of 305,000 square kilometres about 2600 kilometres south-west
of Perth. This is an area one third larger than the Australian state of Victoria.

Assets tasked today by the Rescue Coordination Centre Australia include a Royal Australian Air Force
(RAAF) P3 Orion, a US Navy P3 Poseidon aircraft and a Royal New Zealand Air Force P3.

Five merchant ships have responded to a broadcast to shipping issued by RCC Australia on Monday
night. Three merchant ships have transited to the area following a broadcast to shipping on Monday
evening (AEDT). Three ships have transited through the area, another is in the area today and a further
ship is expected to arrive on Thursday afternoon.

Neither the ships nor the aircraft have reported sighting anything in connection to the aircraft.

Search conditions in the area today are moderate.

This area is vast and remote. It is a challenging search operation and AMSA continues to hold grave
fears for the passengers and crew on board the missing flight.

Cell phone jammers for sale on internet. Do a google search. I just posted link to one then realised I should post direct links and removed it, so you will just have to look for yourselves.:)

He didn't hold back. Lucky he's not on the committee for foreign relations!

I suppose there has to be something to what the General is saying. Surely you don't go to the bother of stealing a 777 just to fly it into the oblivion of the southern Indian ocean.

I was referencing the republican Peter King - he basically called the Malaysian liars and accused them of withholding vital information. It's the second video in the article.

""King formerly served as the Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, where he drew attention in early 2011 for holding hearings on the extent of radicalization of Muslim Americans. He also sits on the Financial Services Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He stepped down as Homeland Security Chairman because of self-imposed Republican term limits. He remains a member of the committee.[SUP][4]""[/SUP]

I admit i have broken my own 1st commandment. Thou shalt ignore anything one sees on the Fox News Channel!
The General made it very clear his info was based on the intel of others. His reference to Boeing data on the location of the aircraft was very specific and ties into the end of the Northern Arc. Almost like it was the US (via the General) flying a kite to see how the world will react to such confirmed information and maybe letting others know what will soon be released, so everybody can get their stories coordinated.

Just hope they did not take the A/C to 45k to kill off all the Pax in an unpressurised cabin and then flew low to dump their bodies in the Malaysian jungle, so to lighten the A/C weight and get more range.

Saw this guy earlier today and honestly I think he is one of those paranoid hawks.
For all I know he might be right but seriously he sounded like one of those nutter conspiracy theory people who see a plot in everything.

Unfortunately more level headed people put this down to a malfunction in the plane or a hijacking gone very wrong, I doubt it was pilot intent.

What !!!! How on earth would "they" do that?
Fly very low over the jungle, just above stall speed, open the rear most door 0.5m, toss the dead Paxs and all their carry ons out and close the door. They would then have more than enough fuel to reach Pakistan. Watched a 777 door opening video and it looked doable.
