I just noticed looking at flights next week, MH is offering fares for $483 SGD (~$415AUD) return to MEL in economy and $2180 (~$1880) in business. Europe around $3.1k (~$2.7k) return in business. Really not looking good for the future, although I do note ex-AU and ex-KUL fares are substantially higher, closer to what you would expect at this time of the year. I guess they have always struggled for various reasons in the Singapore market, only worsened by recent events.

MEL-KUL-MEL next weekend is $547!!

re: MH heavy discounting

I would fly them although I would be a bit nervous. Im already booked up for KUL next June with a QFF redemption in J on EK metal to KUL and home on a Air Aisa X $340 business class fare. Cheap holiday. I love this forum cause it helps me avoid Y with all the tips.

re: MH heavy discounting

excellent - have been looking for a good MR ex-SIN next weekend, thanks!

re: MH heavy discounting

Dang.

I would happily jump on that but SWMBO will not go within a bulls roar of MH at the moment.

re: MH heavy discounting

Haven't they had similar low prices about 12 months ago? Not unusual to see MH pricing quite low

MH sales to Malaysia

MH are offering cheap fares to Malaysia from Australia for travel up to end Mar or early Apr. I think the sale ends mid next month? Flights from SYD are $570, MEL are $555. Fares from all capital cities are <$600 return (inclusive of fees/taxes). Happened to stumble upon this when I was looking at their website last night. I think these are the cheapest fares from them in quite a while! Snagged me a pair for Feb next year. :D
Blackout periods would be the school holidays.

Re: MH sales to Malaysia

Multi City bookings are also good.
Mate is booked MEL/KUL, Stopover,
KUL/DPS, Bintangs, then DPS/KUL/MEL
for AUD $863.

I know I should not search this route, however I'm just curious. It seems MH is giving its ticket for free except fuel & airport charges in Economy. At the same time, most of the other airlines charge more than $1500.

Just looking at the seat maps on expert flyer for flights departing KL this evening to SYD and MEL. Those in economy will enjoy a "fully flat" bed for the flight it seems - and those travelling to MEL at 23:50 will be able to enjoy five seats to themselves. The day flights to both cities seem to have slightly better loadings. This won't be sustainable I'm sure.

I flew MH to Beijing after MH370 and they were fine - the plane was pretty empty though.

I wonder how flights to AMS are priced at the moment?

Seat maps (for flights already open for OLCI) seem to indicate AMS flights are pretty full. One suspects in Europe this is probably seen as more of a Russia thing than an MH thing, and they were less exposed to MH370. On the other hand MH370 was a PR disaster in China and still unexplained so raises a lot more questions.
