MH J earn

Been out of the status game for a bit but I just noticed MH J on the kangaroo route only earns at Y rates. I know QF took a stick to OW partners a couple of years ago but looking at the tables MH appears to be the only OW airline that doesnt earn J status credits for a J flight for UK/Oz.... what gives?

It's straight forward.

- To disincentivize MH over QF on the kangaroo route (which is MH a key money-spinner, too)
- So QF premium fares retain... a premium frequent flyer earn

The difference in fares on MH/QF can be 1000's on a biz/first class Europe trip. As a consumer, you need to weigh up the overall product experience, frequent flyer benefits and determine which best suit your lifestyle.

However it's also important to note that as a QFF# member flying Malaysia - QFF will still earn the same revenue from MH (marked airline pays FF airline on each ticket), so even though you're earning at Y levels, QF will still receive the full J revenue from MH but chooses to award you less.

So either way, Qantas doesn't mind who you fly so long as you use QFF#.

They were all penalised back in 2014.
QR was cut off at the knees too.

Considering you could grab MH for under $4,000 return to Europe in biz, I'd say this is reason enough!

QF does not even offer direct AU-KUL flights (not even code shares) and QFFs are forced onto 3K or MH in SIN if the earn is important. It's such a waste of time in transit we feel. We are flying MH again in November and will only earn a measly 30SC and a few points from each leg but for me, the on board satays will go towards making up for the lousy earn.

Sadly MH's cost cutting measures are hitting the beloved on-board satays as well.. on a recent J flight KUL-MEL we were only offered 3 sticks. It used to be 5-6 in the past.. Hopefully this was just an abberation.

interestingly I reckon if people fly enough MH or QR, they'd be better off getting status with them and using that oneworld status on domestic QF if needed. Could be counter productive for QF for those passengers with business in DOH or KUL, they wouldn't have a reason to stay with QF. Same with EK to an extent, given you don't have a choice but fly EK out of Dubai if not going to London, but cannot upgrade those EK flights with QF points. Better off being on EK's program if you're aiming for points to upgrade. I know not everybody likes EK, but it has a massive network into the EU.

And ditto, would like to see MH-Europe for $4K. I have seen that on Vietnam airlines, but not MH.

If you fly to kul all the time perhaps switch to Enrich if you think its better. Also qf have offered mel-kul-mel on qf code ops by ek since the start of the partnership so yes they do have direct au-kul flights. However that route is about to be removed by EK.

Do you know what percentage this is roughly? I've always thought the non NZ programs I use get some money but always guessed majority goes to NZ because they are the ones carrying me. I'm guessing it's not likely to vary too much (eg 10%) by relationship eg QF/EK not much different from NZ/VA or NZ/SQ but it's all guessing.

Of course, did KUL-MEL on QF8408 in August but slipped my mind this morning. I stand corrected. The problem for us with that sector is that we are merely shifting the transit from SIN to MEL (back to SYD). I'm not indicating that I think Enrich is better than QFF nor that MH is better than QF at all. We do fly MH to KUL when the direct flight is the preference though.

No. But MH does fly from KUL to LHR, twice daily on A380 aircraft. Which can make connections to LHR via KUL attractive.

Yes and one could also fly to LHR via HKG on Cathay (with multiple flights daily) which Qantas do fly yet Cathay flyers receive some status credits.

The cx earn is not 'full status honours' at all. Its half what you would earn on QF flight numbers. East Coast to hkg is 120 sc on QF and 60 on CX.
