MH Pulling out of BNE?

There are two lounges at KUL, one in the satellite terminal and main terminal. The big MH lounge is in the satellite terminal, but IMHO the regional lounge (in the main terminal) is much better, it is smaller and more intimate - it has some sofas facing the windows you can stretch out on. You can of course do both lounges, irrespective of where your flight is departing from, but in all likelihood the flight to CGK will be departing from the main terminal (therefore regional lounge will be closest), but MH 140 could arrive at either the main or satellite terminals.

Thanks for this info. I will def check out those two lounges since I got plenty of transit time. I have been always flying SQ so I don't expect MH lounge to be as good as SKL.

Rang up MH to sort out my in-laws' flights back to Brisbane in late August. They were great. Passengers on the Brisbane flight (when connecting from Europe) will be put on MH141 to Sydney and that should connect nicely with the last QF flight out to BNE.

You can only connect to Brisbane on the last flight until daylight saving starts. Once daylight saving starts the MH flight arrives at 20.15 instead of 19.15. There is no change to the last Brisbane flight at 21.05.

There is a JQ flight at 21.40 which is enough time. Do not know if MH would book you on the JQ flight. Still waiting to hear from MH about our flight on 2 January 2016. When I phoned on 26 June they advised they would be contacting us once they had booked the QANTAS flight to Brisbane.

They issued the SYD-BNE ticket whilst I waited on the phone and then the email confirmation came through soon after. I don't know if they can get you on a Jetstar flight but there's no harm in asking I suppose.

Would be happy with the Jetstar flight and will ask them about that so we can get home that night rather than transit in Sydney the night.

Will be interesting how MH would deal with as our booking is in J and the luggage limit on Jetstar is one bag with 20kg.

Will post how I go.

Have not heard from MH yet for our bookings but daughter who has a MH booking from London after us has received an email from MH today. Part of the email is below:

"Malaysia Airlines confirms it is undertaking a network suspension exercise to reduce our flying to certain routes as part of our normal and on-going network review process.
Effective 09 AUG 2015 , MALAYSIA AIRLINES will cease its flight operations from KUALA LUMPUR to BRISBANE vice versa.

As a result of this , your flight booking on MH135 / 11 JAN 2016 has been cancelled and we have made alternate travel arrangement as follows :

MH149/11 JAN 2016 departing KUALA LUMPUR at 2345 hours and arriving SYDNEY at 1030 hours. Your onward connection flight is on QF616/11 JAN 2016 departing MELBOURNE at 1205 hours and arriving BRISBANE at 1315 hours."

My daughter arrives in KL at 7.15am on MH 3 from London so instead of putting her on the morning flight to Australia they have put her on the evening flight. She is happy about that as that gives her all day in KL for shopping she says!

Will need to confirm that she is flying to Melbourne and not Sydney. MH 149 is the Melbourne flight and QF 616 is the Melbourne/Brisbane flight. Must be a typo they referred to arriving Sydney 10.30.

We shall be forwarding you a copy of your new travel itinerary separately.

Also the date
Leaving KUL on 11Jan2016 and then leaving MEL on 11Jan2016
Must be a v special flight

Frank thanks for your eagle eye!

Was more concerned about the flight numbers and where they to than looking at the dates.

Another question to MH!

Phoned MH last night. They have corrected daughters booking to show it is Melbourne and the Melbourne to Brisbane booking is on the 12 January. Daughter has a J redemption booking and they also confirmed Melbourne/Brisbane on QANTAS is in business.

They had not yet done my wife's booking which is in November or our return flights on 2 January to Brisbane. Whilst on the phone they completed the November booking for the connecting flight to Sydney from Brisbane. They gave me a choice of departure times from Brisbane and chose the 16.25 flight which arrives 19.00 Sydney which allows plenty of time to connect.

As to the return flights on 2 January we can choose if we take the morning flight to Sydney and then overnight in Sydney or the overnight flight to Sydney in which case would have around 18 hours transit in KL. If we chose the overnight flight with the 18 hour transit they would provide a room at the Sama Sama. Still deciding.

Which Sama Sama? The hotel proper landside, opposite the airport terminal, or the transit hotel that is airside? Both are operated by Sama Sama.

Did not think to ask. If we chose the overnight flight I would be hoping that it would be the Sama Sama landside. Have stayed there before and it is a great hotel. An 18 hour transit would even give us time to go into KL.

With my wife's flight going over will need to check she also gets a hotel room as she now has a transit time of 7h 15 minutes. I read somewhere that you get a hotel room if transit time now exceeds 6 hours because of the changes. Would make sense if she was given a room at the Sama Sama airside.

If we chose to overnight in Sydney does anyone know which airport hotel MH would book for us? Not sure if they have different categories for J passengers and economy passengers.

Just thought I'd do my follow up on this one. In the end the early morning SYD -KUL departure is cancelled.
After getting contact details for a Sydney based exec I took the matter into my own hands as the KUL call centre were ordinary.
The exec was vey helpful and eventually after talking with her and a few others at ticketing I now have the 13:50 departure out of SYD, overnight at the Sama Sama landside and a pleasant 1pm departure to coughet the next day.
They initially wanted to put me on the overnight flight that lands in KUL at 04:30, then have a 5 hour transit, all of which I was trying to avoid.
In the end I know route structures will change which I accept, but I needed to have common sense discussions to get what was the most preferred outcome for me and my partner who has not travelled O/S for over 10 years.

Looking forward to a stay at Sama Sama, its 10 years since I last stayed there when it was the Pan Pacific.

Looks like the early morning departure out of SYD is cancelled. which I'm on in mid September with a connection to coughet. Better call em and see what we can do methinks. Any ideas on below original itinerary appreciated.

Phoned MH tonight as no communication from them still as to flight back on 2 January 2016. They wanted us to come back on the night flight and they would give us a hotel room at Sama Sama.

I told them did not want that as that would mean 2 night time flights as we leave Dubai on 1 January which is another night time flight. When I said that we wanted the daytime flight back which would put us in Brisbane a few hours earlier they said no accommodation in Sydney. I said I would email later about that.

Any comments if MH should give us an airport hotel in Sydney on the night of 2 January? Have received email confirmation from MH confirming the flights and the Sydney/Brisbane flight is in business with 40kg of luggage.

I don't think you have a consumer rights or legal avenue to pursue regarding the hotel in Sydney. They have cancelled their flight (that happens) and have offered you alternative flights and accommodation.

You are free to counter-propose, and so can they. This time they will change the flights but without the hotel in Sydney (which I suspect might be quite expensive at that time of year?). You have the option to cancel I guess if the new arrangements aren't suitable.

I definately agree, MH has meet their legal obligations in offering the alternatives and options.

Maybe you can try flying through MEL instead, there's still the 2 daily flights to choose from there too. Maybe MH might meet your request? Never hurts asking.

MEL_TRAVELLER what you have said makes sense. They did off me an alternate which included a hotel in KL. Whilst I am resigned to having to bear the cost of the hotel in Sydney (my choice) will give it a go to see if MH will pay.

Have already checked what is available and best seems to be Stamford Plaza for $193 a night

Absolutely no harm in asking! (Just if they say 'no' I'm not sure what other options you would have open.)

Update on our bookings. Wife due to fly out BNE to SYD at 3.30 on 16 November to take the 21.55 flight to KL and then on to London at 10.35.

Have just received email from MH to say that for operational reasons MH flight to London is cancelled and she is now on MH 002 which departs at 23.30 arriving on Wednesday morning 18 November.

Phoned MH and they were able to (without questioning it) change the bookings so that she leaves BNE on 16 November at 9.25, MH 122 from Sydney at 15.30 and then on to London on 23.30 on MH 002 arriving on Tuesday. Better result all round!

Not having much luck with this trip. Our Paris to Dubai on Emirates has been cancelled (again due to operational reasons) and instead of arriving in Dubai at 17.25 (a sensible time) now arrive at 0.30
