MH (temporarily) bans checked luggage

MH rescinds checked baggage ban.

Now apparently taking a more northerly route.

What an absolute PR disaster for Malaysia Airlines. I cannot understand why they ever made this decision in the first place.

Yes indeed. If it was so easy to change routes, it suggests to me that up until the unusual headwinds started blowing, MH were flying the cheapest route even though it took longer. I have no firm data to back this up. Would appreciate if someone closer to the airline business can confirm or deny.

Again poor/inadequate journalism did not dig deep enough pick up on the fact that MH1/2 flies a route that takes 1.5 hours longer than its closest competitor SIA. I also wonder if any BFOD passengers noticed this fact. BFOD considerations should now include length of flight. Im sure many prospective passengers assume SIA and MH both take about the same time. In fact KUL should be slightly quicker as its closer to LHR than SIN.

I can't understand it either, though I debate if it was an "absolute PR disaster". PR hurt, to be sure. Had they carried on like this for more than two days, I might agree.

PR disaster because passengers now have in their minds that MH could do this, or something equally detrimental, at short notice. This was all over the news.

Agreed. The damage is already done.

"Disaster" seems a bit overused though. The damage is certainly done, but I wouldn't see this as sending them into the sink hole. Or, we shall see.

MH370 and MH17 were disasters. People died, and it certainly hurt the company. The only difference is that, except for MEL_Traveller, both of these were not the result of an errant or negligent action that was actively instigated by MH.

There's a difference between grazing your knee to see the bone, versus your leg breaking in a multiple fracture.

There are disasters, and there are PR disasters, the latter don't physically hurt people (usually).#Qantasluxury was a great example of a PR disaster. Not sure how this one ranks compared with others.Cheers skip

What about MH's BUCKET LIST promo, competition to win flights on MH by submitting what you want to do BEFORE you die. This was done after hundreds had died on MH flights
