Are you able to organise meal option for a GF Vegetarian?

If so, count me in as a Platinum...I probably won't stay the night (not much point given I live 15 mins away), but will def partake in all of the other festivities.

Sorry - thought there were vege options on there- Im not sure what your requirements are, but the restaurant will cater to suit (Luke's a good bloke ;) ) so looking forward to a beer with you again!

Thank Anot0l for your explanation. Will review and probably take the normal King Room. Either get an upgrade, or in need rely on the usual good arrangements MunitalP makes. :)

Cool. THere is an excape hatch in the rules for 3rd party restaurants in their hotels, but if it works for 10 then all good

I think it is a formatting thing with the menu all being run on to one line. I interpreted the 'v' to indicate a vegetarian dish. (not so sure on the GF though!)

So... to the elephant in the room......

Does this mean I have to fly JQ :(

I could fly DJ with a horrible connection via SYD in an E90 (waste of an upgrade there)......

Or BNE is a live option.......

What are others considering??

Yes - but that would involve me having to exercise restraint in beverage consumption!!

I am hoping +1 comes down with me so don't have to worry about that.

And also a slighter longer drive for from CNS to OOL than for me as well

You could put that elephant to good use and ride it to OOL! :p

As you are no doubt aware there is a train option from BNE most of the way to the destination, but ultimately it is your choice (and a difficult one it is too). JQ does seem to have only one flight CNS-OOL per day so is a touch risky in this context.

If I make it I'll be coming from MEL so not much help to you I'm afraid.

Oooh, I forgot about the train....

Has anyone done the train before (to the GC)?

Don't forget for those of you staying at the Hilton who have no status, there is a promo code hiding that will get you instant gold.

Sent from my Transformer TF101 using AustFreqFly

At this stage ours will be SYD/BNE and train it to Surfers then quick taxi to hotel.

There will be a few cars coming down from BNE.

If I have family with me I will be a full car but if it's just me no probs can pick people up from the airport.

No trains go to Surfers,

Will probably best to get off the train at Nerang and then get a Taxi

I'm in platinum, hotel booked. This will be my first confirmed AFF event but I am hoping there maybe opportunity to meet up with some of you before then.:D:D

It's expensive and slow, but it gets you there.

There's also a bus that'll take you from OOL, directly into Surfers I believe. But I've never tried it personally. Gold Coast busses have a tendency to be set on fire by High Scholl Students.

Yes. I did it last weekend. The train gets you there, but it's not particularly fast (Even the "express" stops every few minutes along the way), and the overhead announcements get really annoying. Also it isn't particularly cheap ($58.60 adult return online). Go-Card holders can cheat a little, and buy a BNE city ticket, then leave the station and touch on with their go-card. Unfortunately the train doesn't stop for long enough to get back on the same train, so it would need to be an actual "stopover" for this strategy to work.

Also you arrive at Nerang station, which is not close to Surfers Paradise. Expect a taxi to cost ~ $25.

Given a lot of people may be arriving into BNE at similar times my suggestion would probably be to hire a car and car pool / drive yourself down and back.

A 2 day hire of a large sedan (XR6) plus tolls plus petrol plus parking split 3-4 ways may give the air train a run for its money, and be more comfortable.

Brisbane Airport to the gold coast Hotel is $81 per person as part of airtrain return, so long as you book it online . Naturally we Brisbane based folk will more than likely have a few seats spare, alternatively if you can schedule an arrival by say 8PM Friday and are happy to leave around noon Sunday, some us us could probably grab a Kia 8 seater for $200 + fuel for the weekend and split the costs:
