I am really pissed at the Hilton doing that! Obviously their business model is different than HSW or others...

This event is young enough to make a radical change - how would everyone feel about a venue change to Surfers?

The point of this even is to stay at the Hilton and make use of the exec lounge, so being forced away from the hotel due to extortion room rates 5 months out is crazy. Obviously the Hilton has someone reading this forum!

No problem for me. I have a flexible booking at the Hilton in Sydney - $294, made on Friday morning. Is something else happening in Sydney that night? If not it is pretty disappointing.

I thought about that, the Hilton will want advanced booking which is OK for me, but for the others who are GOLD ATM, it may not work, and then the question raises how long will the Hilton hold a low rate when they know that occupancy is high at the hotel regardless of the rate?

I booked "Best Available" so can be cancelled at any time. It is a little bit surprising to see such a drastic change - I booked a room at $314 and it's now $474.

I'm sure a weekend in Surfers could be done

Hilton Surfers works alright with me since it'll be a new property, plus it's naturally a lot closer to home (no airfare required, although someone is possibly going to find a FL run somewhere, aren't they??!! )

However let's not have a venue change out of spite - some people may have decided based on SYD...

Was having a look at this myself also . No Rugby Tests or Soccer Internationals on either . Cant see any concerts at this stage at the Entertainment Centre announced either. IMO , I think that the Hilton has picked up on this & tried to cash in on the opportunity . When you type in "30th June 2012 Sydney" into Google this AFF event comes up in the search. Whilst Sydney is convenient for me , happy for a change if the majority choose.

At Sydney Hilton's rates I would certainly like to try out the Surfers hotel and its lounge
