Thanks for the photos to date. The souk looks much nicer at night, I thought it pretty dreary during the day but we got there fairly early.

At first I thought you had made a mistake about an entrance fee to the Museum of Islamic Art as I was sure we didn't pay anything last year. I now see that they introduced a fee for foreigners in March of this year. It will still be worth a visit/revisit as it has some fabulous items on display. You took a very good photo of that fabulous jeweled bird, mine was a bit blurred. The designer of the Museum died a couple of days ago Chinese-born architect I M Pei dies at 102
we thoroughly enjoyed the museum and the new one as well (photos to come). Well worth the money and time.

The Souk had a lovely atmosphere - I guess lighting at night makes a difference. Also being Ramadan there were a lot of locals out for Iftar, as well as tourists.

I knew I had seen that jeweled bird somewhere before ;)

We had another long sleep in and then headed straight for the Four Seasons main restaurant Elements. It is safely tucked indoors so open during Ramadan. The options were a buffet, or a 3 course “business” lunch. We went with the 3 courses. Mr FM had spring rolls and I had a delicious chicken and corn soup. mains (not pictured) were fish and a hamburger and the Pavlova and Lemon Sorbet for dessert. Lovely friendly service againAE9A4E14-20D2-4FC9-8429-4C8AF7D58C95.jpegCA6C4479-0757-4D73-9FD6-CC348773062C.jpeg964425B5-E1B2-40CB-A820-C5569F519634.jpeg9D2A1344-48E9-4E15-ACBA-7716E1B4EE0D.jpeg

We spent the afternoon outside in the shade, soaking up the warmth. After a chilly New York and heading for a chilly Canberra it was a welcome break.

At 6 we decided to eat at the Pier again before going out to the museum.

We had been given a Shisha menu the first time, but as we had only wanted some mezze hadn’t really looked at it. This time we found it quite puzzling and asked about it. Apparently it is the water hookahs for smoking. Quite popular in Qatar and it comes with a variety of fruit flavours which is why there is a menu. :).

Didn’t attract us at all. We decided to share a seafood platter (scrumptious) and then Mr FM had a Ramadan special of Arabian desserts while I went for a decadent chocolate fudge cake.55066F1B-9918-49B6-AC66-F4013FEEF276.jpegB6C9EBE5-96B2-4B9B-B894-7344F30A6655.jpeg6C0A4AFE-6289-4D6E-871C-EC80514CA781.jpeg

Took a taxi to the Museum of Qatar. Told our driver to drop us anywhere that was convenient to him, but then the poor man got yelled at by the security guard for not driving us to the entrance :)

Another spectacular building. Based on a Desert rose, although it looked very futuristic. Having driven past it a few times in the day, I actually think it looks better at day than at night.

The displays were beautifully done, with the walls having videos projected on them to supplement the displays. I found the pearl fishing history very interesting.

They have the Bokhara Rug - commissioned in India and embroidered with millions of seed pearls and other jewellery. Originally to cover Mohammed's tomb

Some other photos in the museum, which covers prehistoric to current times. Given the number of little wars Qatar has had with surrounding countries, I guess the current frosty relations are not surprising.

Up early the next morning as we had booked our car for 6am. Qatar seems to have a terminal for F and J departures. As the car drew up to the curb, a staff member came forward, unloaded cases onto a trolley and took us inside to a checkin counter - even putting cases on the belt.

We were quickly through immigration and into the lounge. It was really busy and we decided to go upstairs to eat. I don’t have any photos as it was too busy to take any. Basically there were two buffets, one with eggs, sausages etc as well as a range of cold meat, cheeses, pastry and fruit. The other had some other hot options like grilled mushrooms, various Indian dishes, as well as yoghurt and things like Hummus.

We found a table and then ordered tea and coffee from a waiter.

Near boarding time we exited the lounge. There was someone at the bottom of the escalator who asked us what flight we were on and gave us directions. At least twice more as we walked through the terminal Qatar staff stopped us and gave us directions. Maybe because the gate was in the D complex and you had to take a short train ride. All very organised.

Quickly settled into our normal 3E and F. My FA immediately put the divider down. He was a delightful young man - maybe a tiny bit less organised than previous ones, but he made up for it with eagerness. I couldn’t move out of my suite without him pouncing on me and asking if he could make me anything:)
