Mini trip Qatar Qsuites Cbr to JFK

Next day was a quiet breakfast at the hotel and then Master FM and girlfriend headed out to the airport to fly back to SFO. We were sad to say goodbye to both of them :(.

Our flight wasn’t until 9pm, so we decided to go and see Shazam to fill in the afternoon. It was pouring rain and cold, so not a walk around day. We are finding the subway fairly easy to use.

We picked up the luggage and got a cab to the airport. Pretty heavy traffic but it still took less than an hour.

We were expecting checkin to start around 6, but we arrived shortly after 5:30 and it was open.

Qatar appear to use terminal 7 for morning departures and terminal 8 for the 9pm departure.

We were given an invite to the lounge - directions were very vague, but as I knew Qatar used the Flagship lounge we went there. There is a lift on the left after you clear security.

We were given TSA precheck and that was magic as there was literally no one going through, whereas the normal route was crowded.

We boarded around 8 and had 3 e and F again. The divider was already down for us and they brought out the cover quite quickly. No food photos this time - went to sleep straight away and had the sliders when I woke up, but forgot to take a photo. Mr FM forgot as well, but he said the beef was good

Service is just so good - everything I requested was done immediately. Our names were always used and they remembered my preferences like sparkling water and English breakfast tea. :)

I just couldn’t imagine getting the sort of attitude or rolled eyes I have had more than once on Qantas.

We have now been on the 777, A350-900 and A350-1000. Qsuites are good on all.

Eleven Madison Park looks delicious. Glad you had a wonderful meal - did you go for lunch or dinner?

we were there for dinner - 5:30 start though. I made the mistake of trying to go for 7pm and then worked backwards and reservations were vanishing as fast as I clicked on them! A better strategy might have been to try for 6pm first. However it doesn’t really matter what time you have, as you are there for the whole evening - no rush at all. In the end 5:30 worked as we had brunch and then were ready for an early dinner.

Well still waiting on photos from Mr FM, but I have some of my own....

Landing at Doha was at a remote stand and then bussed in. There is supposed to be an arrivals lounge with PPC for J passengers, but the normal immigration area was pretty deserted, so just used it. Baggage off quickly and we walked out of customs where we were met by an Four Seasons rep and taken to our car. It was a short drive to the hotel and the driver pointed out some of the sights along the way.

It seems a very modern city with plenty of interesting skyscrapers.

We went exploring outside and ended up at one of the restaurant’s - The Pier - for what was supposed to be a small snack. We ordered some mezze - all delicious, but it was a hefty amount of food. The Kibbe was divine and a chilli and walnut dip. There was also a lamb and pomegranate little pie things and of course hummus.6C074437-807A-4CC4-93F1-3EB36195C037.jpeg

We walked around a bit more enjoying the warm air and eventually went back to the suite and to sleep. Managed to sleep 12 hours solid. :)

I wanted to spend some time round the pool so we went off there. Pool attendants were so lovely - of course being Ramadan the pool grill was closed, but everyone round the pool got given a small esky that had bottles of chilled water. Presumably discretely drinking these outside was allowed.

Eventually I got hungry and we went seeking food. Nothing outside was open so we went back to reception and asked where the Arabica Cafe was. I just wanted a snack not a full blown meal. Well we got the worst directions I have ever had. Even now that I know where the cafe is I can’t make any sense of them! Even worse she didn’t bother telling us it was closed until 6 because of Ramadan!

Eventually we found ourselves back at the pool and I asked one of the pool attendants if he knew where it was. He said he could show me, but as it didn’t open for hours why didn’t we go to the spa cafe instead. He showed us into the spa and told us to get the lift upstairs, which we did.

By this time I was really hungry and looking ahead focused on finding the cafe and absolutely missed the pond. Tripped over the wall , stumbled around all the uneven bits in the middle trying to get my balance, tripped over again and went crashing out of the pool and fell heavily onto my shoulder (really didn’t need that with all the joint pain).

As I lay there I had people rushing over to me (it had been a totally deserted space). First and most important was the hand towel over my knees and a little bit of exposed thigh. Then a bottle of water, enquires as to injuries and telling me a wheelchair would be there soon. A wheelchair - really! Mr FM helped me up and I told everyone I was fine. Some bruises and a sore back the next day, but not bad for the total catastrophe.

We found the cafe and had two more visitors - the duty manager for the hotel and then someone bearing ice and painkillers. Sent them all away - what I needed was food!

That all sounds not nice at all- you seem to have had such an amazing trip and now that! I feel for you, hope you won’t have too mich pain. Get better soon!

Ouch. I hope they at least shouted you a dinner for your trouble. (If I had access to the emojis, I’d post one here).

Sounds like you have been very lucky with that fall, even though it was not a pleasant thing to happen. It would've been pretty easy to have had a broken bone. Teach you to not concentrate on where you were walking.....but so easy to happen. Hope there's no lasting damage.

This sounds so much like something I would do -- focussing on getting to the food, not noticing the surroundings, doubling-down after the first trip. So sorry this happened and that the bruises and pain are (no doubt) impacting your enjoyment of Doha. But glad you didn't end up in hospital. Also, hope you ended up getting some food amidst all that attention and concern.
