Missed out on new status due to agent incompetence

Silver
Let me explain this situation; I currently have 250/300 status credits required to attain silver after a recent Qantas/AA trip to the USA, booked independently (my credits cycle expires Feb 29). However last year I took two group trips to London on Emirates (one in May one in August) and I wasn’t in charge of the bookings but I phoned the agent in charge prior to both trips telling him to book all my Emirates flights on a QF number to ensure I get status credits and he said sure.

I haven’t logged in to my FF account/app until now and I was surprised to see only 250/300 credits, I had a look at the account history and I discovered that the <redacted> agent didn’t book my Emirates flights on a QF flight number as I requested so I earned <redacted> 0 status credits for those trips and I earned 250/300 credits on my independently booked trip, so I miss out by 50 and I don’t have any more trips before the credit cycle expires;<redacted>!

I know it’s a long shot and it’s very unlikely, but if I phone Qantas and explain the situation will I be able to convince them to upgrade me to silver like what was meant to happen? Or should I cope up and suck it up?

You can always try, I doubt you will get a good outcome, and I can forsee lots of frustration in the process.

Status is nice, silver status is most of the time considerd a stepping stone towards gold, and not worth chasing by itself. Is there a particular silver benefit you were hopping to benefit from in the next 12+ months? I personnaly wouldn t be frustatedto miss out on silver. I would for gold, and I would a lot for platinum, granted everyone circumstances are different.

50 SC is the numberof SC you may earn with the green status challenge. Did you do the green tier challenge already this year? It may be tricky to et green tier quickly, and Qantas seems to award the 50 green SC the next membership year (contrary to their t&cs), but it may be worth a shot, let us know.

Not that it matters, but normally SC expires on tlast ay of the month, so unlikely 15 of Feb. Any trip planned end of Feb?

As mentioned above, QF membership years are always the end of the month (although for Feb I don’t what happens but I assume it’ll be the 29th this year?). You might see 15 Feb online - there’s a bug in the QF IT that doesn’t correctly show activity from the start of the first member month, instead some date in the month prior.

If you desperately want 50 SCs, that “Green Tier“ bonus 50 SCs is actually easy to obtain - can be done in about 48 hrs - without stepping on a plane. Just need to spend a small amount of $ and use some points.

You’re right. It says 29 Feb. Still no trip before then :(

Yes I confused this with another date. It is indeed 29 Feb when my cycle expires. Will edit that. Still doesn’t change anything though

You can try, but as this appears to be a group booking, the agent may not have been able to book under the QF number.

The incompetent agent said he would book the same Emirates flights under a QF number and he said “no worries, simple change”

Will they give me the 50 SCs for this current membership year (ending 29 Feb)?

If it is your first time qualifying for GT you will get the SCs in year. If its a renewal of GT you will only be able to claim them in March.

Yes, if it‘s the first time achieving Green Tier - you‘ll have about 90 days to chose points or SCs. For subsequent years, you get to choose the reward from the start of your member year.

If you are expecting to fly anywhere (but ideally a short hop eg triangle route) and you can book AND pay for the flying offset before the end of Feb*, then you can then easily knock over GT. You can then decide whether take that Silver status or defer to 01 March and get a 50 SC head start for the following member year.

*allow about 48 hrs for all GT activities to post so aim to complete every leaf by say 25 Feb. Also, you don’t have to fly before end of Feb. that booking with offset will post the leaf about 1 to 2 days later.

Read here how to get GT for the min $ and points.

These group bookings are problematic.
Agent probably ought have said “No can do”

They are tied onto
“Tour arranger can score one free trip for “x” PAX”

Could be worse
For example
Agent could have booked higher flexi fare and charged travel insurance which offloads refund cost to EK instead of the travel insuror. Lower fares have smaller refunds thus pushing more cost to insurance

As a theoretical question, could a booking even be altered like this afterwards? The agent could have cancelled & rebooked before the trip (within whatever the fare rules are) to change from EK to QF codeshare but how could it even happen after the completion of the travel?

As others have referred to, the best and easiest way to silver from here is the Green Tier. Not changing the past but building a different ending.
