Missy Higgins rants about Vegetarian options on-board

I will tell you next month...

FWIW, it is not the meal itself I have issue with, but the absolute and complete lack of variety of the vego meals. They are the same over and over again.

As others have stated the lack of variety isn't just limited to vego meals...

But the regular meals haven't been the same dish for the last two years.

According to some on here they have limited variety - so still an issue.

I can vouch that MH haven't changed the breakfast options out of KUL for a number of years at least now. I don't like either option...

but now if you were talking golf! then I'd agree with you! it seems to be mostly luck rather than skill!! :p
I was talking about everything not just golf.

I am happy when my team wins as well but I do not need to idolise any of them. I also do not need to listen to their opinion on anything other than the sport they are playing.

Idolising pop stars, movie stars etc makes no sense to me. Maybe I am missing something.

Just looked at my past TRs and I complained about the wilted green leaves as a salad in international medium haul J in May 2010.it hasn't been different to this day.

many of them do a charity work, or give voice to health issues, or fight discrimination.

while it possible to do that without celebrity, they have a lot of influence. and a lot of people listen.

while you might not idolise them, many of them are to be admired for talking the time to support various causes.

of course you don't have to listen to them, but if you did, you might learn something.

Whereas for me it is the meal itself I have issue with. I don't care if it's bland. I don't even especially mind the lack of variety (though it would be nice). What I do mind is when I order a vegan meal and get served food with dairy, egg and meat products in - regularly. It's happened in F, J and Y across multiple airlines - so nobody can say "if you pay more to fly J then you won't have that problem" or "that would never happen on flights with [insert airline here]".

I do not think it is too much to ask that if I order a vegan meal, that it is actually vegan.

Lack of variety is not limited to airlines. Got a vegetarian friend to accompany me to an industry dinner at a Melbourne city motoring club venue. I ticked the vegetarian option ( some weeks before). The staff were taken by surprise on the night, it would seem. He got exactly the same meal for entree and main course!
On a previous occasion at a reasonably sophisticated French restaurant, they grudgingly dished him up a plate of fried mushrooms.
To add to the fun, he also has a strong allergy to several nuts, so we've seen what that can do ( beware the dolled up pesto sauce,)

Admiring and idolising them (including hanging on their every word) is not even close.

What do you think I would learn from them? Anything useful for me to carry on with my life?

breast cancer awareness, prostate cancer awareness, Parkinson's, land mines, poverty, encouraging men to go to doctors and young people to play sport. and two decades ago, AIDS. the first two in particular are important, and if people decide to act and check themselves or get checked (because Kylie says so) that can only be a good thing.

I think most of the population appreciate celebrity following is a bit if fun. teenage girls and boys... well that's part of growing up, but I don't know how much of the adult population 'idolises' so to speak.

I'm WP and last time I flew in Y in the 747 my friend and I ordered the vegetarian meals. They were interesting. I did ask for some leftover bread and butter, though, because the trays only contained a Hindu lacto-ovo-free mishmash of pre-packaged slag.

Does anyone know if the Kosher ones are better? Do they still come in those funny boxes?

Same here. I don't think it has changed in at least 5 years and could probably safely wager that it is a lot longer too. Not only the variety is not there, but the main is also bland and tasteless.

Perhaps this needs to be brought up at the next Rockpool lunch that Qantas puts on, that Neil Perry design some new vegetarian choices.

She wants respect, yet she fails to respect her other passengers by not shaving her arm pits.
I am sorry I rather the bland vegetarian food over overgrown disgusting hairy armpits.

Sorry what? Most of the men on board Qantas flights "fail to respect other passengers by not shaving their arm pits" - are you going to rant about how disgusting that is too?

No, I didn't think so.

So basically, this was just a sexist rant and you should take a long, hard look at your attitudes towards women and our entirely acceptable body hair.

Sweet poison. ..awful, disgusting part of Y meal. I reckon a fruits option, if there is one, would suit me better than what QF offer to economy pax.

There is one. It's called "fruit platter" when you go into the special requests section of your booking.

I just had the worst airline meal I have ever had. The VGML served on Qf6 Sin-Syd was just awful. Spaghetti with a minced mushroom and garlic topping. It looked horrible and tasted just as bad. It really is not difficult to provide tasty, enjoyable vegetarian meals, I don't understand why Qf find it so hard.
