Moderators should be able to delete "Irrelevant" posts

I must admit that I am less concerned about irrelevany or hijacking posts (they can at least contain useful information and/or be diverted to another thread) than I am about the totally useless posts, that, as I pointed out in an earlier post to this thread, do nothing other than inflate the poster's count.

Long term members of the forum may recall that some very valuable members have left the forum because of this practice, and that is definitely a BAD THING!

It's worth noting the ignore function hides the post, but you can see there's a hidden post there... which just creates intrigue and you'll eventually want to view what was said :p

Not for me. I find that if there is anything useful or outrageously funny someone else will quote it. No need to peek, just let others filter the wheat from the chaff. But you can't ignore people anyway.

Here you go samh004 :o

The day this forum decides what people can and can't post or how often they should post is the day it becomes useless.

This is a community. Some people post more than others. All posts are useful. If you don't like someone put them on ignore. Don't harp on about it. Don't insult them.

Is this thread in the Playground?

...All posts are useful.
I'd have to respectfully disagree with you on both points. The first goes to the heart of Moderation (whether topic subject or post). The day we can't or don't decide what people can post is the day that the rabble will overtake the Forum and its usefulness will be lost.

Not all posts are useful - we delete less than useful ones multiple times every day .

Yes, I have seen spam posts (temporarily) in the past, hard to descibe them as useful.

That's not what I meant. I have no issues with moderation.

I do have an issue with some people who constantly waffle on about people posting too much. Aa far as I am concerned it's a low form of personal attack. An insult. Let's leave it at that as I don't need a holiday from AFF.
