Most disappointing destinations

I'm gonna get slapped down for saying this, but Vienna is on my list, I actually preferred Bratislava.

Vienna is everything about Europe toned down to boring.
It's a conservative Germany, and really, what's the point of that?

has anyone mentioned Cleveland yet?

Well not 'slapped down' but just a big "really???" Are we talking about the same Vienna; the capital of Austria? You must be a very hard person to please or you must have some pretty specific tastes as to what constitutes 'exciting'. I and almost everyone I have spoken to who has been to Vienna has thought it a wonderful city.

Donaufest!!!!
Walking around 'The Ring' of an evening

Just thinking about it makes me want to go back now.

Not confused at all. Don't get me wrong the touristy parts are OK.

I went on a tour with Cosmos. We stayed in the middle of Warsaw and I thought it was pretty but overall it was dull.

We stayed further out in Prague and for miles and miles on end were these dull communist box type buildings. Awful. I see some of them around Circular Quay in Sydney.

Come on John; anywhere with a links can't be disappointing! Poland has plenty of nice choices and there are a couple in the Czech Republic as well. Guess you didn't have your sticks with you on that trip.

Circumstances change - i went to Vienna on my honeymoon in '05. Wonderful place. Went back in 2012 for Christmas with a 2 year old. Thought it was quite boring and 'disappointing' compared to the first trip. Of course, you can't go to museums easily with a 2 year old!

It's all a matter of perspective.

My top 5:

1. Manchester.
2. Brussels
3. Singapore
4. Abu Dhabi
5. Brisbane.

All of them are extremely dull.

Paris, on the other hand, I absolutely loved. I don't think it's a city that is great to merely observe / see the sights. There are plenty of layers beneath the obvious. Also, you really need to speak even a little French. If you can get it across that you're Australian (not English or American) I found the locals to be extremely polite and helpful. The Metro was packed but frequent which is all you can ask for mass-transit.

I will on future trips.

One of my goals in life is to play on as many golf courses as possible in as many countries as possible. Yes I know I am dreaming.

Venice why? I thought it was ok but then then maybe not

Love Venice! Stayed at Hilton and had such a great time. No huge crowds. Did the 'right' thing...put away the map and just got lost in the alleyways and found lots of great shops, restaurants, bars and such a great people watching experience..loud Americans, brash Aussies , pale poms, and so on

I don't think I have been disappointed anywhere I have been. I think every place has something to offer even if it is not a lot, you just need to look for it. I see every destination as an experience.

For example, when I was in Spain last year, I (+ Mrs B) went to a tiny village called Vilat with our Spanish friends who have a house there passed down through the generations. It is fair to say there is nothing in Vilat, but.... you walk around the village and you are allowed to pick oranges from other peoples trees. Nobody is greedy, you just take 1 or 2 to eat. How communal is this I thought? And the oranges are just so tasty. And the cobblestone streets that are hundreds of years old. And the architecture in the local church that is just amazing. And seeing happy smiling children just playing with a ball on the street..... no internet or foxtel here. See what I mean???

I've never been to Disneyland (and have no desire to go), but Bruges is about as close as I'm likely to get. There are far nicer medieval town centres elsewhere in Europe.

Current trip have been little a disappointed with Florence (insane crowds), Munich (very little pre war architecture). Dublin OK but wouldn't return. Loved Prague, Barcelona while Vienna, Salzburg nice to wander around for a day or two.

I didn't like Venice because it was dirty as, its way to crowded and they have really let the place go! Coupled with the fact that swmbo and myself wasn't feeling well made it a truly underwhelming experience

I was disappointed by the Pyramids. It didn't have the wow factor I was expecting probably because it was just there in the middle of Cairo.

I agree with Paris. Way too overhyped. I don't understand why it is still the most visited city in the world.

I disagree with Kuala Lumpur. Cheap food, cheap shopping, cheap five star hotels.....
