Moving Velocity Points to Krisflyer

Along similar lines, I'm looking at booking 2 x one-way flights in Y on SQ for around this time next year.

For a full reward flight (SQ ticket) the site identifies 95,000 KF miles is required. So if I book online, it should only cost 80,750 KF miles (95,000 - 14,250 = 80,750)?
If I convert VA points to KF miles, this would cost 109,013 VA points, (80,750 x 1.35) correct?
But for full reward redemption on SQ I would not earn VA SC or points?

What about the use of KF points + pay? Do these earn VA SC's and points and if so, does anyone know roughly what the 'sweet-spot' is (using the above as an example)?

On the SQ site it also states that; "Any miles earned can only be credited to KrisFlyer accounts". Is this the case, or am I reading the posts above incorrectly?

Reward seats dont earn SC or points in either program.

Why you book a full reward ticket? I just looked at random dates in August 2016 and one way Saver reward in Y would cost only 42,500 (50,000 less 15%) and $546 in taxes. This is 57,375 VA points.

A Saver J ticket would cost 93,500 (110,000 less 15%) and $584 in taxes, this is 126,225 VA points.

I'm not sure about points + pay, but typically, in my experience, these represent poor value.

If you're desparate to earn SC on your flight, have you considered paying for a full flexi Y ticket and using points to upgrade to J?

Don't think there is a limit - Transferred 400k velocity points a month ago. Was done instantly.

I just wondered how much VA had to pay SQ when I did this? Anyone have any ideas?

Has anyone had success moving 5000 Krisflyer miles (earned from the promo of making a new account) to their Velocity account? Was able to successfully link the accounts but an error appears when I try to transfer.

Yes, I moved mine with no dramas. Now I'm considering moving a bunch back - so I should have just left them there !

I moved mine no problems. Was only a few months later that I started flying SQ more frequently and wanted to use some points on a J reward, in hindsight I should've left them there as it meant the 5,000 points was whittled down to around 2700 with both transfers

Correct me if I'm wrong but KF points expire right?

so when you move KF points do they take the oldest first?

if so, the best strategy is to leave them there until you need them either with KF or VA or until just before they expire?

Yes they expire.
3 years from when EACH point is earnt. They can be extended for a period BUT at a cost.

Yes. Each point last 3 years from when it arrives in your KF account.

Generally yes.
BUT I have moved CC points there too when there has been an extra transfer bonus, which for SQ is rare.

Well, as it happens I just moved across 126,240 VA points to purchase 93,540 worth of J Saver SIN-SYD on the 777-300ER, Row 11 mini-cabin seats selected too. That's two J seats at 55K points each discounted by 15%. I did experience a bit of a problem paying for the taxes though. A 'Verified By Visa' screen pop up after I entered in my card and since I didn't have the password, I lost the booking and had to start again, using Amex this time to avoid the silly Visa card issue. I then went on to make a HKT-SIN Silk Air booking using the Amex and it popped up with it's own Verification Required issue. The flight confirmed, but is now showing in My Bookings so I really don't know where that is at.

This is all for what should be a lovely little Christmas New Year trip for my wife and I: SYD-HKT Jetstar 'J'; HKT-SIN Y and then SIN-SYD J.

I set up 4 x a/c's for this promotion, then transferred to Velocity, family pool.
2 went across no probs straight away after I linked the a/c's,
The other 2 had to have SQ do 'something' after I emailed them, then all was well.....

Funnily enough they're all probably going to end up back at SQ thanks to Velocity Amex....

You couldn't get J reward HKT-SIN-SYD? Would've cost you the same amount of points

I found this out by pure chance a few months ago trying to book MEL-SIN-USM. Only had stand-by on the days I preferred and tried various combos and finally found a date that worked and MEL-SIN-USM-SIN-MEL was 93,500 points and around $650 in taxes. This was the same price as MEL-SIN-MEL

As a general rule redemptions in Y on SQ are poor value due to high fuel fines and resultant total fees and charges.

IMO J/F are a much better use.

If not enough points then I would suggest buying the best value Y ticket you can and keeping the points for a future use.

Is there a way to use Velocity points (via a partner) to get reward flights for SYD to Japan (any airport) direct (or via BNE/CNS)? I can only see going via SIN which adds a lot of travel time. I have a mountain of VA points but not enough QF points (who do direct flights of course) to take a family of four.

The only way I can see it, is if you can find a *A partner that does direct flights to Japan. Then you could transfer velocity points to krisflyer and book a partner award through SQ. But I don't know of any *A member that flies direct, even NZ flies SYD-AKL-NRT. I think Asiana via ICN might be the closest you'll get to a direct flight and being able to use VA points

Unless you have a family member that could send you the required points you would need for QF

Since ANA is a Star Alliance member you can use KF points to travel SYD-NRT-SYD...They start flying here in December I believe.

I'm looking at transferring points from my velocity account to my krisflyer account. I understand that there is a 1.35:1 ratio but i was wondering the following:

- are there any penalties, i.e. it costs xx_ points to transfer, or 1% of points, etc?
- how quickly do the points go across between accounts
- is there a limit to how many I can transfer in a specific time, i.e. only allowed one transfer of points per year
- are there any issues with transferring points from Krisflyer to Velocity, i.e. works the same way in both directions?

Thanks.
Actually we transferred points the other way from KrisFlyer to Velocity and it was immediate.

I have several thousand points with Eva Air, Star Alliance, can I transfer these for use on other Star Alliance member?
