Hi all,

Just wondering if the baggage allowance listed here would be accurate, or if QF would be regarded as the Most Significant Carrier (MSC) on such an itinerary for baggage purposes.

As such, on the CX PEK-HKG sector, would:

  • the listed 20kg limit actually apply and be enforced
  • the standard QF 23kg Y allowance apply on CX due to the MSC rules
  • the QF PS baggage allowance (2x 23kg at the time of travel) apply, as that allowance would apply for all QF legs on the itinerary

Also, would I be right in assuming that as the bag (should) be through-checked BNE-SYD-HKG-PEK, the QF PS allowance would also apply on the KA flight (assuming we wouldn't have to clear customs/immi in HKG)?

Many thanks. :)

PS: I know the transit times are tight - the actual booking will allow more time where possible (though utilising the same airlines on the same routes). :)

Doesn't look good im afraid....
Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Club member allowances apply to travel on Qantas operated jet flights with a QF flight number on your ticket. Note: These benefits are not coughulative. For example, whether you are a Silver Frequent Flyer, a Qantas Club Member or both, the same allowance applies.

Except for bookings to/from the USA, MSC applies to separate journeys.

For "flight 1", the MSC is Qantas' on Flight 127.

For flight 2, MSC does not come into it; the CX allowance for 391 applies.

For "Flight 3", MSC does not apply either as all QF.

Thank-you both for the quick replies - a shame about the CX flight, but I suppose we'll just have to do most of our shopping in HKG & Shenzhen after returning from PEK. :)
