Multiple kids watching the one iPad

And the poster who thought it was okay to berate the person for their viewing decision when that show was made available on the IFE - if you had done the same to me, you would have been told in no uncertain terms that you are responsible for your kids, not me. I probably would have thrown in some really rude words too, just to annoy your self-righteous cough.

Note the show was being watched on an iPad rather than IFE I believe.

As an FYI on my upcoming CX trip I will be routing Dexter (serial killer) and the Walking Dead (zombies - really really bad zombies) through the CX IFE... I also routed Game of Thrones (fantasy with extra sex and violence) through the IFE last time...

On my recent MEL-LHR flight I was in an aisle seat and watched one of QF's offerings - Sleeping Beauty (Sleeping Beauty (2011) - IMDb). Non-stop nudity and BDSM. No doubt anyone who walked by me during that hour and half thought I was a total deviant.

The other movie I watched was Snowtown.

All I can say is parents - keep the kiddies away from the 'Australian' section of the Movies on Demand. :o

Maybe it was one of those - had to see it, to believe it kind of things.

Good point regarding the various IFE programmes - thats why I specifically mentioned what people bring on board with their various devices. Never had a problem with any airline showing whatever as there is always choices to entertain the kids.

However, as we were on a J* SYD-MCY flight there was no other entertainment available which probably only attracted the kids more to the S&M sex acts, ritual killings, same sex themes & blood thirsty fun that any family would enjoy watching.......don't know what I was thinking - thats A grade family entertainment.

You don't remember the timings for the nudity and BDSM do you? It'll save me time if I can fast forward to the relevant bits. :p whistle.gif

I think the scenario with the iPad might pan out OK, but does have the potential to be very annoying. I'd be encouraging the use of headphones I think. :)

Should have thanked the person for watching it, would have been a great opportunity to educate and impose your morals on your kids.

Oh, in regards to the topic & the OP - I can confirm we couldn't hear a thing :mrgreen::mrgreen:

I watched those two movies on a fairly recent QF flight  (I think it must have been MEL-PER-MEL on a 333). I think I switched SB off when FAs were taking meal orders etc.

Sleeping Beauty seemed to be pointless. Snowtown was quite good, but boy, some screwed up people there.

Contrast this with a CX flight last year where they censored the word 'bloody' (and this on AVOD) - never know what you're going to cop.

As to the OP's original question, I've no practical experience with such things, but a little experimenting beforehand, and then just trying to get it right on the day is about the best you're going to be able to do.

Also going back OT I was ok for a 3 hour flight PER-SYD as it did go quiet after a time but if that had been a long haul flight I would have asked the CSM/FA to intervene. If it was me I would perhaps tap the guys around me on the shoulder and advise of the situation and say "If it is too loud please let us know and we will do what we can" - putting in the lap of someone else to ask an FA to intervene is a bit much (and I am not saying you would do that).

On the head phones front have you tried bluetooth headphones?

OT - it's funny what people think is appropriate to watch on their Ipads and other devices in a public environment.....on a recent flight my kids got an eye full of "True Blood" that some knob across the aisle decided to watch. Took me a little to work out what they were watching (S&M whilst sucking blood from another) before I got up and told him what I thought about his viewing choice.

FA was near by & saw what was going on and suggested that he choose something else to watch.

Got me thinking about how airlines are going to police censorship/rating issue in the future? I'm no anti anything....but, there is a time & place for everything.

A few years ago I was watching Air Crash Investigation on a PER-BNE flight.

1 nervous passenger had a slight problem with it, so I angles my laptop away from him. Problem solved.

I like watching ACI on the plane. Never had a problem with anybody commenting.

As for sound from a device with no head phones. I wouldn't like it.

I was using headphone in my case. Just didn't mention.

I would respectfully put to you that given it was BYO entertainment on J* and presumably you didn't BYO any kid-distracting-items, it is unfair to try to dictate to someone else who did bring an iPad along what they can and can't watch. Particularly given they were across the aisle. Perhaps it would be different if he was beside one of your kids.

Personally though, I try and be aware of who is around me (within reason). For example, I would avoid watching some of the titles you mentioned earlier while on a plane.. ;)

Debbie does Dallas, Deep Throat ? .....sorry don't know any of the latest titles.

Just quickly the problem I might have with headphones is the 2yo boys won't keep them on... The boys have only been on short haul (CBR-BNE-CBR) flights so far and thus didn't really worry about IFE for a that short a flight. I just remember taking my daughter at a similar age on a much longer flight (RAR-AKL-MEL-CBR) and we had no hope of her keeping headphones on. Although that wasn't such a problemas there was no such things as iPads back then.

I found when my youngest were very little that the longer the flight, the greater incentive to listen. Have done multiple trips to LHR when they were younger and didn't usually take long to figure out that the IFE was pretty boring without sound.
Also invaluable are the magic slate wipe board things.

Two is a young age to struggle with headphones - have you seriously considered these though?

Sennheiser MM100 Bluetooth Wireless Stereo Neckband Headset

...

They aren't over the head just over the ears and no wires...
I had doubted they'd be permitted to be used in flight.

But Qantas now permit the use of wi-fi and blue tooth when the seat belt signs are off.

Electronic Equipment[/h] All electronic devices, including PDAs, laptop computers, handheld games, iPads, Ebooks and toys must be switched off during take-off and landing.
Portable electronic equipment such as laptop computers (including WiFi and Bluetooth enabled devices), PDAs (without mobile phones), personal music (for example, iPods) iPads, Ebooks and electronic game devices may be used when the aircraft seat belt sign is extinguished after take-off and can now be used until we prepare the cabin for landing.
Radio transmission using personal communication devices (including walkie-talkies, two-way pagers, or global positioning systems) is prohibited at all stages of flight, as it may interfere with the aircraft's communication and navigation systems.

They are permitted on QF (most aircraft). They are not permitted on CX.
