NAN run over - massive price increase?

The problem with your argument is that adjustment does not only mean increase. It also covers a decrease and changes to the fare rules. In fact anyway that the fare might be adjusted. So if they need to explicitly state it means an increase then they would need to explicitly state all means of adjusting the fare. That gets well away from ordinary language.

I agree about the booking with confidence stuff that you raised.

Sent from my iPhone using Aust Freq Fly app so please excuse the lack of links.

I do see where you are coming from, but in reality if we take that interpretation, there is no confidence at all... I still feel they could have added:

...or fare adjustment (including any fare increase between the time of making the booking and when you come to pay).

If you are proposing a contract (pay $25 to hold this fare) then it is actually not unreasonable that there could be a detailed explanation of what is meant by the terms being offered. Look at the frequent flyer program... the terms and condtions go on for pages. Having a paragraph somewhere to explain what you mean by the term 'fare adjustment' is not hard.

( This thread really needs to be split into two threads:

1. The NAN run fare increase.
2. What does Qantas "Book Now, Pay Later" really mean?

IMO both are worthwhile topics. )

While Qantas are free to do what they like with their fares, I think they've gone a bit overboard here. Ok, maybe the BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN routing was a bit odd, however I don't see why we shouldn't still have BNE-SYD-NAN or BNE-MEL-NAN as options. I can book a BNE-SYD-SIN for a very similar price to BNE-SIN...

I personally would travel to Fiji once or twice a year for short weekend breaks and I'm happy to pay for J. I have routed the long way for the SC bonus, however I would still happily travel BNE-SYD-NAN-SYD-BNE as it offers the use of the F Lounge (which is obviously not usually an option for those of us based in Queensland) and travel on the 744 out of SYD. I cannot justify travelling only BNE-NAN on the 738 without use of the F lounge, so I believe that will spell the end to my weekends in Fiji.

Just to throw some alternates into the mix based on both stuff in this thread and some of my own tinkering (not particularly optimized yet):

CBR-SYD-NAN return: $1771 for 12346 FF (as WP) and 240 SCs

or one which might have a bit of potential
HOB-MEL-SYD-NAN return: $1900 for 14846 FF (as WP) and 320 SCs

Certainly not the $1350 for 360 SCs of the ol' BNE routing though.
