That still does not help when the cabin crew decide what is best them rather than you and lock you out of it.

and how is other airlines 'procedures' relevant to how QF may manage this? as QF don't currently fly the 787. seems you have already made up your mind:rolleyes:. please report back on AFF with some facts about QFs 787 'window procedures', when QF are actually flying the aircraft!! Speculation has zero merit in my opinion;)
 
Well they could hardly say 2nd best..

While I doubt QF will go above 12 A380s, I'd be expecting an announcement in the next 12 months about a new First seat (QF have already run focus groups) and a retrofit of the Business Suite

I'd have thought the challenge on the A380 is whether 1-2-1 in J can cram in enough rows not to reduce the overall J seat count. And whether the A330/B787 width is similar to the upper deck of the A380 (otherwise space efficiency wise it may not work very well).

But i agree a refit of the A330/B787 seats into the A380 seems a no-brainer from a product perspective.
 
I can't see any boxes for the IFE in the shots in this thread - is their any information on their placement? For me in ULH economy it is the placement of these that dictates my comfort to a greater degree than seat width/pitch.

Would QF 'window procedures' be any different on the 787 than what they are on the 747? I am not in business that often but when I am I prefer to sit in a window seat and hate being told to close the shutter based on what other people want to do at that time.

I can understand shutter down in economy but with individual suites in business it shouldn't be an issue.

And in saying that I hate the effect of the windows on the 787.

The difference is that this can be controlled electronically on the 787 where as it is a manual process on the 747
 
I loved the windows the first time I experienced them - on day flight from DEL to CDG. I have travelled on day flights between Europe and Asia numerous times, and this a great opportunity to view some great scenery (if there are no clouds). However there is a tendency to want to black out the cabin for the flight, and if someone opens the windows there can be a lot of glare. The 787 window allowed the cabin to be quite dark, yet still allowed great views out the windows.
 
But aren't you flying at night?

Flying west at 500 knots...the sunset takes forever, and just sits there in the window. Same for going east at dawn, but at least it has the decency to rise out of the window reasonably quickly.

And yes...there's a lot of night flying. The last couple of years night/day is about 2:1.

I know Jetstar is not "Qantas" ... but yes it did happen on a Qantas Group Airline - and this was just Sydney-Melbourne ...
 
Doesn't the B773ER that VA flies offer wider economy seats? If so, why is QF touting that its B789s will be 'comfortable' when for many Australians they'll be 'cramped' in Y class?

Yes VA's 777 is 18.5 wide with a 32 pitch . I'm more than happy to stick with that ...thankyou
 
Which confirms our concerns. The crew are in control of the windows and we can't see out in the middle of the day.

You can see out if its daylight - it's just like looking through a curtain of Harpic Flushmatic!!

Yes Ari Gold, and QF held a party to 'celebrate' economy class seats that are less comfortable than many seats on trains worldwide.

I wish some of the reviewers who run Internet sites for business travel would write about how inferior airline business class seats are to well designed railway sleeping berths, but then I doubt that many of these Internet site purveyors often - or in some cases have ever - travelled in sleeping berths on trains. Miles ahead in comfort, but it's more lucrative and trendy for these reviewers to talk in awed terms as to how a business class traveller has some 'personal space' to stow his or her shoes.

They are different modes, of course, and airlines have unique safety and weight-minimising requirements but many of the features that airlines boast about today have long been incorporated in the better designed rail sleeping carriages.

How do you know they are less comfortable? Have you sat in the new seats yourself?

And do you also understand the difference between airline seats and train seats? You do realize weight is a massive issue?
 
Then why even bother making a comparison????

It's like me saying my lounge chair is more comfortable than the F seats.. it's a pointless comparison

It's not fun looking out those windows in daytime.

I still remember one of my first ever flights in 1990 at night in a window seat SYD-SIN-ATH and seeing all the lights of cities below. Still excites me today.
