NBN Discussion

Had letters from my ISP and other prospective NBN providers saying gleefully that we're being cut off on 8 March.
Assume Optus will be terminating the 2 year ADSL contract some 10 months early.
Wondering (not) if they will be compensating me for failure to provide a service for the remaing period of the contract.

I don't expect speeds to be fast though as we are a long way from the exchange.
Exchange doesn't matter anymore. It's where the node is for FTTN. This site may map your area if on FTTN.

I'd be checking the contract.. I'd expect anything signed only 18months ago will have provisions about migration

And install seems to have worked. Plug and play with the new modem and we're off and running. Haven't checked speeds yet but seems faster.

Range of wifi modem (new) doesnt seem particularly good however.

Whilst I agree with your pedantry regarding the spelling I'm sure it won't curb your enthusiasm when it comes to having it installed. :p

My enthusiasm is well and truly curbed and will remain so until nbn gets me connected. Currently totally dependent on my mobile phone.

I have recently taken out a Telecoms industry Ombudsperson complaint. A friend just sent me a link to Product Review on iinet and just for Jan 2019 there are 4 pages of complaints. I can’t imagine how bad the rest of them are.

And they're supposedly the best in their field

I'll tell you that Telstra are terrible, until you threaten them with a poor NPS score, then they come around :D

TPG Have been reasonably good in my short experience with them

We were with TPG for over 15 years and they were great. When we were switched on to NBN they were pathetic and refused to service our ADSL2 and outright lied when they said our lines were switched off when NBN started. So I lodged a complaint with the TIO too.

I have been with iiNet for 19 years and never had any problem up until December last year. They seem to be suggesting it is the Telstra lines that are causing the problems. If I need to go on a different plan apparently there’s nothing they can do except charge me more, they cannot offer me a plan at the same price.

Funny we've never had any problem with them, both at the townhouse and (after a couple of years of Telstra here, as they could not supply us) when we went VDSL a couple of years ago. Guess they're a bit like QF - consistently inconsistent. :)

Which is exactly TPGs ploy! Was NBN recently made available nearby?

Well being new build there's only one option. NBN.

I have been very happy with my 4G modem for the last 2 years. No landline here!
Same here. With Optus. And much cheaper. Plus I can take it if we go down the river to our shack where there’s a new Optus tower. Just plug it in.
