I got offered a neighbour free seat. Is it worth paying $225 for it? Or does it mean the flight is likely empty? We are on sale economy and usually, as it is "cheap" (at $2300 from bne to bs as) i am not allowed to upgrade so it is not a terrible option...this is the long leg, SYD-SCL.
Just would like to know if this is offered because the plane may not be very full so they want to guarantee more money as the seat is empty anyway. We are two people, my son and I, and are sitting one of last rows and apart from the extra legroom options in row 40, all seats appear taken. We fly this Monday 10th.
I'd rather get that offered on return cos the flight is longer and layovers are also longer, but who knows, the might too. Thanks!

Edit: aircraft is a Boeing 787-9 and map shows row 44 are next to the toilets, so maybe not such a great idea.

Is extra legroom in row 40 worth it? Or is it where babies usually seat?

If QF is only offering the neighbour free seat for row 44, I agreed - don’t do it.

If somewhere else, it seems like a good idea, the flight is reasonably full, you are unlikely to get an empty seat next to you by chance.

The Economy cabin is fairly full, as seen from the seat map below.
You stated you’re in one of the last rows, I can see 56A & C assigned for example, $225 seems reasonable to keep 56B empty IMO on a long haul leg.
The offer is likely due to the few single seats available within 2-3 days of flight.

Thanks for this. We are in 52 and no free seats around unfortunately. 44 is no good, if it was anywhere else at the back I'd take it.

Really? I couldn't stand all the people standing around and coming in and out of the toilet!
There’s some here. That’s their seating preference:

“I do prefer the last row, simply for the reasons stated above, no one behind you, closer to the toilets”
“No trekking to use the toilets”
“Close to the toilets is a deal breaker for me”
