New 3 class 747 layout - QF7/8/15/16/107/108

Okay this is my quandary

Travelling soon on 107 SYD to LAX and returning LAX to BNE then back to SYD.
I had reserved 5B both ways but when 107 was changed to the older config they allocated me an exit up stairs instead of giving me a 1st class seat. With Serfty's help I have now changed that to 3A

So if I leave my 5b allocation for Flt home and it happens to be the older configured Bird I will miss the first class seat. If I change my allocation now to 4E or F and it happens to be an older outfit I might still jag first seats! Is 5B that good? How many older configured B744 are still around?

With QF 744's 5B (and row 5 in general) only exists on this new configuration - row 4 does not exist.

With what you are indicating, 3E or 3F are your best for that. For rows 1, 2 & 3 A/K, the A/B and J/K pairs have the problem of someone may have to climb over someone else to access the aisle.

Would appreciate any feedback on 60H. Am scheduled to fly in May and have currently chosen 60H rather than pay for an exit row. Can't select row 43.
I went for a walk down to row 60 on yesterday's SIN-BNE flight.

Row 60 is OK but the legroom appears to be restrictive and looks similar to row 23 bulkhead on A333's. I guess the good thing is you have no one in front of you reclining back into your face.

Forgive me if I am asking this in the wrong forum, but I have my first flight in J coming up in a couple of weeks on QF7/8 and have managed to secure 5B both ways (which the consensus seems to be is a great seat for single travelers). I have never had the privilege of being in an exit row on an International flight, let alone in one in J, so I am unsure of Qantas' rules around exit row seating. I see from their website that it is a requirement that people sitting in an exit row are capable of assisting the crew in an emergency, and it then goes on to list things that would preclude a passenger from sitting in an exit row, one of them being that you cannot have a vision impairment. Would this mean you are ineligible if you wear eyeglasses? Or is it reference to someone who is legally blind? I really only need my glasses for small print, so if it does will I just not wear them until after I have checked in?

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question for all of you who have far more experience than me in flight experience ( I am a lowly Bronze member at the moment, but between 2 flights Brisbane to USA and Europe in the next month, all in J, I guess I shall move up to Silver at least if not Gold)?

Thanks

Wearing glasses will not restrict you from sitting in an exit row.
5B is a fantastic seat, crew jump seat opposite you so if you are chatty you will get to talk with the crew.

This is my dilemma too.
I've got an old 1st class designated for a trip to J'burg. I'm fine with that. On the way back it looks like an old 2 class, with downstairs J rows 1 to 4 then rows 23 and 24 behind the bulkhead. If it's this config then I think I'm better in 16b upstairs, but I'll be well annoyed if it's the old 4 class and I miss the old F cabin.

There seems to be an increased frequency of refurbished 747's on the Japan service (QF21/22). Or maybe it's just being reported more.
Are they still only being used when an existing ac requires maintenance or has one been permanently replaced (or refurb'ed)?
And what's the seatmap config for the refurbished?

Tossing up between 3E/3F or 5J on QF16 next month. Current allocation is 3J, but want to avoid someone climbing over me during the flight.

Will be travelling solo. I'm 6'3"

Is either one better in terms of legroom when the seat is fully extended?

Mrs Paddy sitting in 5J in 6 weeks going SYD-SIN... will be very interested to hear her opinion

Booked in for the QF8 jump BNE-SYD next week row 16 upstairs, hoping the lack of neighbours across the aisle will be a plus.

Howdy guys - I've got Y+ 39K on an upcoming and heavily sold QF51 BNE-SIN... Seatguru and the like suggest this row may not have a full recline, and that the window is 'misaligned'... It's perhaps not the best seat in the cabin, but is it really that bad? Any experiences? My only other option is 38G, aisle off the centre row of 4... with no pax in 38F for now... but I'd probably prefer a window. Cheers.

Yep another 5J fan, had it a few times and its really great. Sadly QF22 didn't have it the other day, had to take 4. I really not fussed on upstairs myself, looses the roominess IMO.

Have a flight on QF 7&8 coming up shortly. I've selected 14 K as I've always been a fan of the "bubble" and that seat has pretty much unlimited leg room. But the consensus here seems to be that 5J or 5B are a better bet for a solo traveler?

Does anyone favour row 14 over row 5?

Re: QF7 - No Row 4?

As per post #12 over two years ago, nothing has changed:
I would go Zone A over Zone B or Zone F.

As a solo traveller, based on general, not specific, experience I would take either 5B or 5J in a heartbeat if available. If not, then in order: 3E, 3F, 14B, 14J, 14A, 14K then any available aisle seat in zone A.
