Re: 4-class 747 operating QF7/QF8 - how much longer?

Travelling QF7/8 with Mrs & 2 Juniors in late September - whY unfortunately.

Currently in 44D/E/F/G for QF7, being the second row (i.e. back row) in the little mini cabin at the front of whY on the new config. There has been plenty of discussion on the +/-'s of various J seating on the new config, but not much I could find on whY.

Will these seats have noticeably less recline? Dont want the front rows as we will be making use of lifting up the armrests to form a row of 4 for the little ones, so it is either row 44, or any other row as they will all be much the same as far as I can tell.

Any thoughts? And (according to the seat maps at least) the loads look low (although the return is in school hols) and have seen stories of them not flying QF8 full of pax due to fuel burn, is there any truth to this?

Cheers

Re: 4-class 747 operating QF7/QF8 - how much longer?

From the lack of whY specific replies I hypothesise that either:

a) AFF is full of J travellers;
b) QF7/8 fly with empty Y cabins;
c) While there are good and better J seats, whY seats, once the exits are removed from the equation, are all equally bad; or
d) Everyone who flies QF7/8 in whY is so scarred by the 15 hour experiences that they daren't post about them for fear of bringing up repressed memories.

Haven't flown this route but had a look at the seat map and if it is any bit the same as the recline you have on the 4 class 744 in the mini cabin which used to do the BKK-LHR flights than I would take row 44 as well. I did not notice any restricted recline or noise from the bathrooms and like the fact that there is nobody kicking or pushing your chair.

Re: 4-class 747 operating QF7/QF8 - how much longer?

Thanks Serfty. I had posted in that thread but for some reason didn't get a notification of the new post (perhaps as it was posted on mobile).

Front row would be great except with 2 young kids we want the ability for the armrests to lift up, hence the queries on row 44 rather than 43.

e) All of the above

Re: QF7 - No Row 4?

QF 52 (SIN/BNE) on 12th August is a refurbished 3 class 744.

as is QF52 on 11 Aug 12, QF website showing 58J/36W/270Y atm, managed to snag 43C as thanks to AFF (again) that looks like one of the better Y seats

Re: QF7 - No Row 4?

With the caveat that I have not yet flown in this aircraft, I'd go in order 3E/F & 14A/B | 14J/K.

With the former, no-one has to move to permit the other to access the aisle.

Quick question if you don't mind... Looking at 3E/F - it seems you're sitting out the open on display... no privacy? Why do you rate these seats highly?

I have 16 J/K ( nothing else available upstairs yet) selected for LAX to JFK but am interested to hear why these seats in row 3 are preferred?

They are available for me to change to, thanks in advance.

Re: QF7 - No Row 4?

I'm travelling QF7 SYD-DFW in late November and have selected seat 60H. Does anybody know the legroom situation for this seat? I assume there is a second Y snack bar located where rows 58/59 HJK were on the old config?

The reason has more to do with the space in front, as the entire cabin is pretty much in front of you and no one behind. The cabinet in front is useful too. 16 J/K would be good for a couple as there is no A/B and again the whole cabin is in front. New generation seats have a lot of room anyway. Also the toilet is at the front so the traffic past the seats is really only FAs

I suggest you read through subsequent posts - my preferences have changed somewhat.

Privacy? 3E/F are as private as it gets on this aircraft - and the best IMHO for a couple.

Me I don't rate 'privacy' so much, so would plump for 5B or 5J before any other seat if travelling solo.

I'm in 60K (bulkhead) on QF107 in a little under two weeks and will get back to you if this goes unanswered. My understanding is that a galley (not a snackbar) is directly in front of row 60H/J/K.

Much appreciated - thanks!

Re: QF7 - No Row 4?

Not that we have much choice now (1/2 the J seats are not showing on EF or QF ?Why), we are in 2A, B Syd-Scl on the reconfig 747 in 2 months' time. What are these seats like for a couple? Have not seen much commentary on this row... seems a long way from the bathroom tho...

Just for a change of scenery, and to allow us an extra 12 hours in Scl, we are on the Lan 343 back to Syd, currently in 1A, C...any comments about these 2 seats for a couple?

PS: the reconfig 747s are now serving QF27, 28 now...

Re: QF7 - No Row 4?

The LA codeshare has it's own allocation.

If you check a seat map for the corresponding LA806 you will find those 'missing' seats.

I guess 3E/F are gone.

Seats 3E,F are not showing at all...I guess they are allocated to LA :(

Actually Mrs. Lancet and I flew the reconfig 747 to EZE (the second last flight) in March and returned from SCL on LAN on a A340 - both in J. We had seats 2A and 2B on the way over and 2J and 2L back on LAN. Both flights and seating arrangements were very comfortable and well suited for the long haul across the Pacific. I was very impressed by LAN and the comfort of the cabin and seating.

Thanks for that, great to know re 2A, B on the reconfig QF 747....I actually flew J on LAN bet Syd and Akl a couple years ago, and was very impressed by the LAN J cabin.

Just flew LAN to scl in j. I've previously posted how much I like it, but this flight was a shocker. Quite the surliest, slowes most grudging service I've experienced in a long time. I'd even persuaded a colleague to join me instead of using qf. How embarrassing.

Just flew BNE LAX on qf15 in 5B.Absolutely excellent seat. The storage to the side is a win. Infinite leg room, nobody to bother you, quite private with the bulkhead/exit in front.Service was top notch too with an excellent crew. The toilet thing is a pest though. One of the two was out of service, as was one of the PE ones. Queues were ridiculous. Its bad enough when all are functioning, but this was jusany believable for a 'premium' product. Qf need to address this if they are serious about service.
