re: [4 Class] A380-800 reconfig UD question

Adding 7% more capacity to the same aircraft could not be construed as good news in anyone's eyes other than the accountants or others who seek profit.

Considering it isn't at the expense of other passengers (ie shrinking leg room etc) it should make little difference at all. If anything the only issue I see is it will make a bad dunny ration worse than it already is, which on the A380's wasn't too good anyway.

And the removal of a galley won't impact service, the loss of potential upgrade seats affect upgrades, more people wanting the same overhead locker space etc etc

I can see the upper deck Y cabin becoming a sought-after enclave. Emerald city lite?

No the loss of the galley won't effect service. From what I read on another board the galleys being removed weren't being used anyway. As for overhead space, unless I am mistaken where the galleys come out more overhead will go in, and where they are being converted from J to economy the net effect should be the same, considering J has a larger allowance and no floor storage. As for upgrades they don't effect 99.9% of the people on board so most wouldn't care less. So overall it will make no difference what so ever to the customer experiance.

re: [4 Class] A380-800 reconfig UD question

Thanks for bringing that to attention. My point of view is how can they compete with other 'premium' carriers without offering a range of premium products. Then again they're going to probably have a better First lounge in SIN then SIA themselves by year end!

I dont think birds #13 and #14 are due for another six months.

I remain of the position that it is unlikely that these birds will come in a different configuration to the other 12.
It was announced that they would be three class, before the announcement about the deferral of #15 thru #20

re: [4 Class] A380-800 reconfig UD question

So this is happening ?

Going from:14F/72J/32W/332Y
Going to:14F/64J/35W/371Y

F - Stays the same
J - Decrease of 8 seats
W - Increase of 3 seats
Y - Increase of 39 seats

Y - Increase of 39 seats

Does anybody know what this will mean for seatnumbers in Y?

Will 80 A / K stil be the best Y seats or will the seatnumbers change?
Or will those good seats disappear alltogether?

You may have to wait until set plans become publicly available.

Fair enough, if you think an extra 7% of people sharing the same facilities and space, along with the same luggage carousel to give yet another example wont be a change in the customers experience then we will just have to agree to disagree :)

Not to mention the debacle that will result in boarding with some Y pax having to go upstairs. I can see the complaints about Priority Boarding not working already. They'll need 5 lanes to do boarding properly - F, J/W, Lower Deck Y, Upper Deck Y, Lower Deck Priority - but I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen!

The only other way around it would be to force the Upper Deck Y Pax to board via the lower deck, go all the way to the back and then up the stairs!

TG is the only other A380 operator with a three class upper deck.

Re: [4 Class] A380-800 reconfig UD question

Why do not Qantas increase Y+ seats? Surely the yield on Y+ would be better than Y. The lowest Y+ price would yield more than the middle priced Y seats.

That's a good question. I thought it was a bit weird that QF has invested in a Y+ product and then put so few Y+ seats on the A380. It looks like a pretty good product too. I walked back from J the other day and thought "wow, QF A380 economy doesn't look too bad at all!"... and then I realised it was PE. Clearly I'd had a couple!

New A380 config?

Any ideas?

Just loooked at my Y+ booking on QF11 in September given another thread around here stating mondays now 744. I'm not travelling on a monday. I had selected 38F which I was quite happy with.

Now I see rows 24-28 laid 2-3-2 (autoselected 25B swtiched to 25A). This config doesn't exist in the qantas seat maps on qantas.com so wondering if this is the new 380 3 class/refit config? No exit rows showing, row 24 not avail for selection (I'm SG only sadly). Clicking on flight number shows A380 as operating aircraft.

I'm going to be annoyed if we end up back in the "original" config and i lose my exit row seat.

Points request in for J anyway so hopefully academic....

Any ideas what's going on? Have I stumbled on the new config? Not that I can see F/J/Y to see how it's laid out. Maybe someone with expertflyer can check out the full config....

What date are you travelling, I can have a look then

I see something similar on the 8th of September...First is rows 1-5, Business rows 11-22, PE rows 24-28 (exit is 24), Y map is not coming up on EF.
