125k points posted to our accounts but now wondering if I should go in and purchase another 35k each before bonus ends to ensure we have enough for F both ways if need be. Question is do I buy AA or USDM at a 10 percent discount and when they merge I believe USDM send the miles over to AA. Anyone know when that merger takes place or just do the AA extra purchase now. Also can some one suggest a return route from London or Europe that I can try. Thanks

QF availability to LHR isn't too bad at time via DXB. BA seems to be there if looking 10+ months out via SIN.

EY have a very solid F product but that will cost you 100k miles per person per way as it's gotta be booked as two separate awards.

For QF and BA availability can be checked and can also be booked online. For EY you gotta call them. If you want to check availability use KVS or if you haven't got that then I heard the EY Guest website can be used as AA availability mirrors that. Or if you like tell me your date range and I can look for you using KVS.

thanks Nizar can see lots of availability Mel to LHR in July Aug Sept. But coming back is very scarce. Would like J both ways if possible and a return about 5 weeks later. Pretty flexible for any of those months and do not need for it to be London could make our way to Paris or similar

Don't forget CX who has very good availability but again you can't check on AA site. QR is also a possibility.

CX is also starting soon a route out of Manchester which apparently has good availability.

Dale.

Agree on QR and CX but I believe he was after F.

It's actually better if you avoid coming back out of London as you'll get hit with UK ADP which is a departure tax which will add about A$250 per person to the ticket

Just bought 60k + 30 bonus and to my surprise the miles posted almost instantly, which is much improved. The miles purchased used to take 1-2 days and the bonus used to take several weeks to post. Good to see that AA have upped their game.

Hi guys,

Any tips on redeeming the award on CX? I am looking into LHR - CGK via HKG 25 July (~ 3days), looking into expertflyer it has availability on CX but the agent keeps saying not available....hmmm, maybe me not doing it right I wonder

CX has a problem with phantom availability. The only way it seems from personal experience and what the other experts say is to use JL website to check.

I personally use an account on www.awardnexus.com (there is a free community account available to members of this forum I believe) and you can check CX availability on JL through Award Nexus to get correct availability.

i believe using a combination of JL on their partner search, QF and BA is the most thorough way to check it. It's been mentioned here that JL usually underestimates the availability, so if its available on JL you're most likely going to be able to book

Using awardnexus now, so I tick the CX (JL) option I believe... and it is still running :) Hopefully find something, thanks guys!

Was browsing this thread and thought I'd like to give this "point-buying" lark a try..
Searching through my old emails, in an attempt to find my AA number and get in on the act, I came across an old AA booking MEL-JFK-LHR-LAX-MEL in Y from 2008, for Mrs D and the two progeny.
$2719 each....!!!!!
What????
All I want to say is "Thanks AFF"

Just a bit over 20minutes left AEST for this buy/gift promotion .... decisions decisions. I don't really need the points ...... but.

Just used 180K on 4 x F awards to/from South Asia so bought up 80K+45K and 20K+6K. Feel ripped off with the AUD the way it is and probably the last one I'll do for a long time.

Which OW airline offers F to South Asia ?
Was it BA to SIN ?

Yeah. 3 x BA F SYD-SIN and 1 x BA F SIN-SYD. Mum, dad and I got to all travel together on that first flight when we headed to Singapore for NY together which was really nice. Unfortunately it really doesn't compare well to TG F or CX F in terms of soft product, but they loved it (having known nothing different and never flown F and almost never long haul J).

If you need an excuse here's one, don't those EY F 388 Apartments look appealing ?
