New Amex Shop Small program - earn 3 bonus points per $1 year-round

Do check your statements for the Shop Small bonus points, especially for large transactions where they are easy to spot.

I've done multiple transactions >$100 at a small business which is on the merchant map with the Shop Small symbol but no bonus came through. The chat agent initially said it's not a Shop Small merchant. It's only when I sent him the direct web link that he agreed to escalate the matter.

So I've lodged another enquiry about 2 weeks ago regarding Shop Small points that didn't come through. On the day I lodged the enquiry, both merchants were on the Shop Small map.

Fast forward to today, I noticed only 1 lot of points came through. And when I did a search on the map for the second merchant, the Shop Small symbol is no longer showing!

Now, should I waste 15 mins on online chat for 1080 points...

Completely miffed by this small shop

Was browsing a online store for the first time put something in my cart to see if a code worked, it didn't, closed browser
2 days later got amex app notification that that order has been charged.
Notified merchant got a refund.
2 days later check my Amex tranasctions
2,800 pts for purchase
-2,800 pts for refund
4,200 pts for shop small credit
4,200 pts for shop small credit
4 200 pts for shop small return

Not complaining about the outcome though!

While investigating a SS credit for fewer points than expected, I discovered that Amex Live Chat agents can provide a tally per card:

Took them less than a minute to pull the information. Turns out I'd miscalculated the tally on my end and maxed out the promo.. time to open another card...

The Shop Small promotion is supposed to end on 31 March 2022. See evidence here: Be part of Shop Small | AMEX Shop Small | AMEX AU

However, it seems that Shop Small was closed down prematurely during what appears to be the last week of February 2022. On the Amex My Account website the Shop Small entry under Amex Offers / Saved to Card has disappeared and I haven't receiving Bonus Points for any Shop Small spending after 21 Feb 2022.

Has Amex pulled a swifty?

All good on mine, last shop small credit posted 27/02.
Still showing on my offers expiry 31/03.

Have you reached the 40k Shop Small cap? This is what happened on my cards where I reached the limit.

You can contact live chat to get confirmation on whether you've reached the 40k points ($13.3k spend) limit.

I went onto live chat yesterday. I haven’t reached the 40k cap but no points have posted across 3 cards since 17/3. I was assured they would be credited. Seems like something is broken. Anyone had points credited recently?

My last SS points came through on 18/3 and I haven't had any since despite some transactions with confirmed SS vendors - so yes it looks like something has broken..

Nothing recently. Owed about 2000 for a couple of transactions. Live chat confirmed the main one was eligible and quoted a made up 10 business day turnaround and also the possible 60 days from the end of the offer turnaround that is in the t&cs.

I'm in a similar situation, my last lot of points came in on 17/03 and nothing thereafter:
17/03/2022Shop Small Credit01,1401,140
17/03/2022Shop Small Credit05757
Since that date, I've had eligible SS transactions on 18/03, and a couple of other dates too, with no bonus points given.
Definitely a broken system - none of my other bonus points have taken this long.

An interesting conversation with a live chat rep this morning.

I enquired about whether transactions that were made on the 31/03 (that is, the offer end date for SS) would be eligible for the bonus points (my local drycleaner is on the SS map and I've got a few big jobs coming up).

The question was about whether a transaction needs to completely post to the account (that is, move from "Pending" to "Posted") on or before 31/03 to be considered eligible, or is it just the actual transaction date (regardless of posting date) the one that the system considers. This is important because some merchants drag their feet in reconciling their accounts, and others do it on the same day.

The CS rep was adamant that the transaction must be posted to the account by the 31/03 for it to be eligible, which means that any SS transactions I make on this Thursday (the 31/03) will most likely not be eligible, due to taking a day or more to post to the account.

Anyone have any experience with this or did I just land up with a clueless agent?

From my experience, the spend must be made on or before the expiry date. It does not matter when it posts.

Clueless agent.
Perfect - thanks so much @Rohit and @DC3.
Just what I was after (I'm not in the credit card/merchant network/interchange/etc industry, so I'm not too familiar with the subtleties and technicalities involved in these sorts of things). Friends in the industry have told me that I know more about credit card networks than the average Joe, but in this case that knowledge has not assisted!

I just thought I'd clarify in writing with a rep to ensure that I don't go and blow my credit limit all on SS purchases on the last day of the promo, only to find out that there's no bonus points due to the transaction posting in April.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

Shop Small bonus points have now been credited to my accounts overnight. I hope this is the case for others too. I wonder what caused the 12 day delay? Happy I don’t have to chase them now. Thanks everyone.

Same here; got about 2K points, mainly thanks to buying quite a number of Sydney Opera House tickets.

Now if I could only see the points transactions on my DJs Amex ...

Have same problem with my DJs on the website but can view them under membership on the Amex app. Try that.
Not just me then! You can only see the bonus points on the Amex app though right? Sometimes I want to see whether a store such as Dan Murphy's or First Choice is giving three points per dollar or one point per dollar.

That’s true only bonus points visible on app. Strange that all the info is no longer available on the website.
